We are seeking several dedicated Litigation and Claims Advisors. This position is a hybrid work type and can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Tampa, FL; Colorado Springs, CO; or Chesapeake, VA. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.
The Opportunity
What you’ll do:
- Identifies and leads existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are optimally identified, measured, supervised, and controlled.
- Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
- Applies advanced knowledge to investigate, evaluate, and negotiate sophisticated claims related to Uninsured Motorist, Underinsured Motorist, and Property.
- Identifies cases for settlement or defense and may settle cases within a $100,000 limit of authority.
- Performs sophisticated work assignments and problem resolution.
- Responsible for facilitating meetings with Senior Leader Committees to acquire approval for up to $350,000 settlement.
- Provides expertise and makes recommendations on claim negotiations and settlements.
- Applies advanced knowledge to partner with Claims Operations and provide guidance for sophisticated claims settlements that mitigate risk of litigation.
- Identifies trends in claims handling and provides recommendations to improve trends.
- Responsible for developing and delivering targeted training to Adjusters, Examiners, and Claims Service Managers for more effective lawsuit avoidance and claims strategies.
- Facilitates awareness of changes in law affecting claims handling to help ensure compliance through guidance to claims operations, litigation, and Centers of excellence.
- Serves as a resource to team members on advanced issues of a sophisticated nature.
- Acts as a catalyst.
- Provides guidance to other team members for goal achievement and team success.
- Performs all other tasks as assigned.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree: OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 6 or more years progressive experience in handling complex and significant exposure liability and first-party claims and coverage issues.
What sets you apart:
- 6 years 3rd Party Casualty File handling experience.
- 3 years 3rd Party Litigation handling experience.
- 3 years Management/leadership experience.
- 1 or more years of project/process management experience
- Working knowledge of ALIS (Advance Litigation Information Systems)
- Higher education such as Master’s degree or Insurance Designation
- Vendor Management experience such as working with defense counsel
- HO Section II file handling experience.
- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $95,250 – $182,030. Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
