Digital Media Specialist, Iranian Studies Program

Department/Program Description: The Hamid and Christina Moghadam Program in Iranian Studies at Stanford, part of the Global Studies Division, provides an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary platform for the study of modern Iranian history, culture, politics, society, and economy. Each academic year, Iranian Studies hosts a diverse array of lectures, conferences, film screenings, and performances that are open to the broader community. The Program also serves as a forum for scholars, experts, practitioners, and artists from Stanford and beyond to teach, collaborate, and study Iran.

Position Summary: The Iranian Studies Program is seeking a Digital Media Specialist with Persian language fluency. The position will work under general supervision of the Associate Director and will, under minimal supervision, build, cultivate, advocate for, respond to, monitor, and grow a digital community on behalf of, and while representing the program. The successful candidate should exhibit the ability to practice sound judgment and decision-making, effective written & oral communication, strong attention to detail and respectful relationship management. This position must also exhibit a strong desire to continuously learn new and unfamiliar topics, policies and procedures as they relate to the digital media landscape- the ability to translate this information into operational successes will be critical. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated written and oral proficiency in the Persian language, and have experience working in the communications field.

This is a 75% FTE, 1 year fixed term exempt position with the possibility of extension. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.

CORE DUTIES:
• Produce and curate digital content to engage users, increase user base, and grow channels. Optimize content delivery strategies; build content topics, tailor content to outlet platform, target specific audiences, and make editorial decisions.
• Translate program material from/to Persian/English.
• Strategize to build and grow digital community through social media channels, paid advertising campaigns, blogs, and the web.
• Compile data, analyze and report on social media use. Analyze how content is performing and create reports with recommendations to management.
• Manage social listening efforts based on comments and online conversations. Respond to reputation risks by taking appropriate action and recommend solutions to minimize harm.
• May supervise interns, entry-level staff, and volunteers.

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree and minimum 1 year of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

• Bilingual Persian and English with fluent reading, writing, and speaking skills in both languages.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to build lasting relationships and strong communities, customer focus.
• Knowledge of the web, technology, social platforms, current and future trends.

• Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules.
• Demonstrated team player.

In addition, preferred requirements include:
• Knowledge of photo, video, and audio editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite.

Working Conditions:
• Occasional work on evenings and weekends.
• Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
• Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
• Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.

The expected pay range for this position is $66,000 to $81,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
