Position Title: Borough Coordinator

Department: Sports & Recreation Department

Reports To: Director of Sports & Recreation & Senior Program Manager

Job Summary

(This Position is a Part Time Seasonal Position running July through August.)

Start Date: July 10th. Hours Monday-Thursday 11:00AM-4:00PM.

Mandatory Training June 28th-29th.

The Borough Coordinator is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction for all PAL sites in assigned Borough. Responsible for supervising all programmatic and administrative aspects of assigned sites. The Borough Coordinator ensures that assigned sites are operated in accordance with the mission, values, and polices of the Police Athletic League. Under the direction of the Director of Sports & Recreation, as well as the Senior Program Manager, plan, organize and manage services, staff, and volunteers and perform administrative duties that support and facilitate all the day-to-day PLAYSTREET functions.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for multisite staff supervision and programmatic benchmarks.
  1. Troubleshoot site based concerns and inquiries by community stakeholders.
  1. Build and maintain relationships with program site hosts.
  1. Support Program Directors in providing counsel and redirection to line staff.
  1. Ensure site compliance as executed by Site Director.
  1. Model and uphold all agency policy & procedures
  1. Attend and participate in preseason training sessions.
  1. Assume full responsibility for the PLAYSTREET Sites.
  1. In conjunction with the Senior Program Manager create daily action plan to ensure objectives are met for the site.
  1. In conjunction with the Senior Program Manager & Activity Specialists plans and coordinates various citywide programs, activities, and special events.
  1. Personally conduct weekly site observations for all sites located within assigned borough.
  1. Assess Site’s programs and activities to ensure services are delivered in a manner that is consistent with the organization’s mission and philosophical approach towards programming.
  1. In conjunction with Senior Program Manager and Site Staff the Borough Coordinator will plan and coordinate public relations efforts that serve to promote PAL.
  1. Ensure all sites are clean and safe of any potential hazards.
  1. Provide direction and supervision to Site Directors as well all subordinate site staff.
  1. Interact with site youngsters, adding to the program by providing special activities and facilitation of specialized workshops.
  1. Sign off on all log books and paperwork, especially payroll sheets and incident/accident reports; prepare all paperwork and reports for submission to the Sports & Recreation Office.
  1. Ensure all PAL logbooks, registration forms are maintained in good condition and note daily attendance at sites.
  1. Ensure that all specialized programs to include prevention, sports and recreation are in line with the required PAL curriculum.
  1. Inspect, inventory and replenish all site equipment and display boards and ensure they are operational and presentable.
  1. Develop clear communication and working relationships with NYPD officers as well as PAL partner organizations.
  1. Ensure that sites open and close on time daily; ensure all staff dress in PAL-provided and approved attire (Staff T-shirt, appropriate shorts/sweats, and athletic footwear).
  1. Act as a mandated child abuse reporter, being aware of the signs of physical, emotional and sexual abuse; report incidents/suspicions to Senior Program Manager.
  1. Advise youngsters and parents of site schedules, special events and site policy and procedures.
  1. A PAL Borough Coordinator is a role model. Encourage staff and youth to actively participate in all available activities, and that they receive respect and recognition and understand that advice/guidance is available concerning problems onsite or offsite.
  1. In conjunction with the Sports and Recreation Office and Director of Human Resources the Borough Coordinator will recruit, interview, and approve the hiring of all employees.
  1. Communicate with the Sports & Recreation office on a daily basis.

Additional Responsibilities

  • File incident reports (accidents, injuries, altercations, etc.) no later than the day of the incident.
  • Submit weekly attendance reports and ensure that both Site staff & youth participant attendance log books are signed and well kept.
  • Ensure all timesheets are neat, correctly completed, properly signed and submitted to the Sports & Recreation Office in a timely fashion.
  • Work with Sports & Recreation on specialized projects and assignments as needed and assist with the coordination of supply deliveries and special events.
  • The ability to supervise multiple sites throughout the city.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Previous experience in a sports based youth development program.
  • A bachelor’s degree preferred (minimum of sixty credits towards a degree) from an accredited college or university in administration, recreation, psychology, sociology, education, counseling, physical education, sports management, exercise science or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years professional paid work experience in a non-profit youth or social service agency in an administrative or managerial capacity with at least five years in a leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated skills and competency in youth service and recreation.
  • Understanding of conflict resolution, mediation and mentoring concepts.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to speak professionally to staff members, parents, community residents, visitors, NYPD officers and PAL partner organizations.
  • Familiarity with administrative protocols involving dress, demeanor, record keeping, reporting, confidentiality, visitors, use of supplies and equipment and cell phone.

Salary: $25.00-$27.00 Per Hour
