KIPP NYC Public Schools is a non-profit network of free, public charter schools that prepares students for success in college and life. In 1995 we started our first middle school, KIPP Academy, in The Bronx. Our goal was to graduate students with the strength of character and academic abilities needed to succeed in high school, college and beyond – and in so doing, to prove what is possible for all students. Today, our New York City network is comprised of eight elementary schools, nine middle schools, one high school, and KIPP Forward, a comprehensive support program for our alumni. KIPP NYC Public Schools currently serves more than 9,350 students and alumni and has a staff of more than 850. KIPP NYC is continuing to grow and opened two new middle schools and an elementary school August 2021!
Job Description
Position Overview
The Regional Director of Academics Operations is responsible for strategically planning and executing the implementation of regional initiatives around curriculum, instruction, assessments, and professional development for our 18 schools and about 1000+ teachers and leaders across KIPP NYC. In addition, the regional director of academic operations leads the internal operations and support of our regional Teaching and Learning Support team and our Student Support Services team. This role reports directly to the Senior Director of TLS.
General Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Vision Setting
- Operationalize regional initiatives around academics, school culture, assessments, and professional development for teachers and leaders.
- Create a vision and execute on how Operations at TLS interface with key stakeholders to ensure high quality execution of regional initiatives and plans.
- Create a vision and execute on key operational systems for the Teaching and Learning Support Team and the Student Support Services Team to ensure frictionless processes for TLS content directors.
Strategic Planning and Execution
- In collaboration with the regional leadership team, create yearly academic calendar and professional development calendar based on academic and development strategy for the year.
- Project plan based on academic strategy to ensure successful implementation of all TLS/S3 initiatives. This includes vision setting for major regional events
Systems and Processes
- Create frictionless systems and processes for major regional teaching and learning processes such as scheduling and calendaring, assessment creation and implementation, curriculum procurement, state test preparation, budgeting and finance, school visits, meetings matrices, and other key operational processes.
- Manage all products currently utilized by the Teaching and Learning Support Team including, but not limited to, online academic platforms, budgetary platforms, project management platforms, and event management systems.
- Frequently review effectiveness of systems and processes and continuously improve processes based on feedback and user experience.
Budgeting and Finance
- Create yearly TLS budget based on TLS priorities and past spending for approval.
- Ensure responsible fiscal spending and management by incorporating frequent practices to monitor yearly spending against budget.
- Think creatively about how to meet exotic budgetary needs that may come up.
Event Planning and Execution
- Own the planning and execution of all major events including KIPP NYC regional PD days, Dean Development PD days, and student/family facing events (e.g. science fairs, Math is Life Tournament, Millionaire’s Day off, etc.). This includes sourcing vendors, determining budget, creating event work plans, managing facilitators, and procuring venues.
- Develop significant relationships with vendors and support staff at various school sites and venues to ensure successful execution of events.
Team Management
- Lead theTLS operations team through strategic delegation of work amongst the team.
- Develop operations team through frequent coaching, feedback, and stretch projects.
- Manage the operations and logistics of the larger TLS and S3 team.
- Lead TLS and S3 team culture and provide thought partnership with members of the TLS and S3 team.
Collaboration and Relationship Management
- Collaborate with school-based teams and other functional SST teams to ensure effective delivery of services.
- Collaborate with TLS directors and regional leadership team members to help brainstorm and actualize academic and regional vision.
- Work effectively with others with a customer service focus.
- Manage all vendor relationships ensuring quick response turnaround.
Qualifications
- Bachelors’ degree required; Masters Degree preferred.
- 7+ years of Operations experience preferred, preferably for a large-scale organization of 1000+ employees; school-based leadership experience highly preferred or large scale event planning preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders across the organization
- Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Ability to exercise discretion and judgment with the handling of highly sensitive and confidential information

Compensation and Benefits:
KIPP NYC offers a competitive salary ranging from $105,060 – $120,510. Salary ranges at KIPP NYC are standardized based on role level and role function. Individual salaries are determined through a lens of equity, accounting for years of experience relevant to the role and scope of responsibilities, and are benchmarked against others within the same salary band.
