Description

Position Summary

Custodian/Grounds is responsible for custodial cleanliness, building maintenance, security and grounds keeping for assigned areas. Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions

  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, shampoo, and/or spot clean classroom, office, hallway, restroom and related indoor and outdoor area floors and walking surfaces. Use appropriate sanitizing and cleaning products when mopping, spot cleaning or shampooing.
  • Clean whiteboards and trays.
  • Empty, clean, and line wastebaskets. Empty pencil sharpeners.
  • Dust tables, desks, window sills, chairs and other flat surfaces. Wax and polish furniture as needed.
  • Wash tabletops, desks, mirrors, windows, drinking fountains and sinks, including chrome and stainless steel plumbing, with appropriate cleaning and sanitizing products.
  • Polish chrome and stainless areas.
  • Scrub toilet bowls and urinals inside and out, including chrome and stainless steel plumbing, with appropriate cleaning chemicals. Wash toilet seat covers. Clean soap and paper towel dispensers.
  • Check and replenish paper towels, toilet tissues, hand soap, sanitary napkins.
  • Collect all trash from assigned area on a daily basis and dispose of in large refuse containers provided.
  • Monitor supply of necessary cleaning and sanitizing products. Notify supervisor of need to replenish supplies prior to running out.
  • Perform light maintenance on equipment, furniture, buildings including, but not limited to, light plumbing repairs, furniture repair, and replacement of lights.
  • Perform specialized tasks during adverse weather conditions and college closures.
  • Perform lawn maintenance activities.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs of the lawn irrigation systems.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of landscaped areas.
  • Perform weed eating activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • One (1) -two (2) years of custodial, maintenance and grounds-keeping experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of routine maintenance of buildings, grounds keeping duties, and ability to effectively operate related equipment and tools.
  • General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Must have the ability to effectively operate heavy cleaning and scrubbing equipment.
  • Must be aware of and practice safe work habits.
  • Ability to perform simple carpentry, painting, plaster/wall repair, and do minor equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and write English and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Must be self-directed, trustworthy, responsible and able to work with minimal supervision, use good judgment, plan work tasks, and know when to ask for help.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, reach, bend, twist, climb, crouch, crawl, kneel push, pull, shovel, walk, prune, or plant, for varying lengths of time.
  • Must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must have the ability to use effective interpersonal and customer service skills.

Additional Information

This is a part time position up to _ 29 _ hours per week as needed. Part time employees earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked.

Pay: $14.00 per hour
