Summary
Summary: Under general supervision of the Assistant Recreation Services Manager or their designee, the Aquatics Technician Apprentice will assist the Sr. Facilities Technician with routine preventative maintenance and repairs to aquatics equipment. Participates in “on-the-job” training tasks, projects, and off-site training to work towards becoming a full-skilled Aquatics Technician.

Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties
Essential Job Functions:
- Assists in monitoring, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and performing skilled repairs and general maintenance on aquatic chemical systems, pumps, and motors, play structures, circulation systems, concrete, tile, and plaster, etc.
- Assists in preventative maintenance tasks scheduled for water park equipment (i.e., pools, pumps, motors, slides, etc.).
- Completes on-the-job training projects and tasks to work towards becoming a fully skilled Aquatics Technician.
- Maintains inventory of parts, supplies, tools, and equipment as directed.
- Under general supervision, conducts daily inspections of aquatics mechanical systems and attractions.
- Assists in performing general maintenance of the Aquatics Facility and repairs as necessary.
- Documents maintenance actions, including system or equipment irregularities that require monitoring.
- Assists with overall facility cleanliness and safety of the Aquatics area; vacuuming pools, power washing assigned areas as needed, etc.
- Conducts daily water testing and reports findings to a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) to adjust chemical levels as needed.
Other Important Duties:
- Will be required to work some evenings and weekends during the summer water park operating season, as well as special events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Regular and consistent attendance and punctuality for the assigned work hours is essential.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of general aquatics maintenance and repair procedures.
- Basic knowledge of water chemistry, water testing, filtration, and water park mechanical operations.
- Ability to perform normal pool cleaning services.
- Knowledge of safe handling techniques of hazardous chemicals and materials.
- Basic knowledge of computers.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
- Basic skills in effective oral and written communications.
- Basic skills in reading and comprehending operations and maintenance manuals.
- Basic skills in troubleshooting and diagnosing repairs.
- Basic skills in providing and utilizing on the job technical and safety training.
- Basic skills in preparing and completing work orders and related reports.
Education, Experience, and Certifications/Licenses:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one (1) year in general maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or aquatics maintenance.
- Current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) license preferred.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical agility test, criminal background check, and MVR check.
- Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver’s License.

- Work is performed in an office and field environments.
- May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, infectious diseases, toxic waste, air and water borne pathogens, unsafe and unhealthy building conditions, and rough or unstable terrain.
