This is a position providing direct care services to youth and families participating in Garden City Family Resource Center activities.
Work involves responsibility for providing comprehensive prevention, diversion and intervention programs for youth and their families.

A Family Resource Center Case Manager is supervised by the Family Resource Center Supervisor, and the Parks and Recreation Director
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree with a major in psychology, social work, sociology, guidance and counseling, or criminal justice
AND
- At least one year of experience in the field including direct service experience; a minimum 25 hours of Alcohol Tobacco and other Drug (ATOD) prevention education; and related knowledge, abilities, and skills:
- Expected to complete requirements for obtaining a certificate from the State of Michigan as a Certified Prevention Specialist or Certified Prevention Consultant within the first two years of employment. (Cost for approved trainings as well as license fee and testing fees paid by Family Resource Center, or reimbursable through the Family Resource Center)
- Considerable knowledge of the operation of prevention, diversion and intervention services.
- Considerable knowledge of a variety of social service/psychological activities.
- Ability to administer rules and regulations in such a manner as to promote understanding, fairness, and equity between users.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to deal tactfully and with understanding with youth, their families, and any other persons interested in the program.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with recreational staff members, civic groups, other departments/agencies and employees, and subordinates.
Supplemental information
- Family Resource Center Case Workers may be required to cover duties of other Family Resource Center Staff on a limited basis during planned or unplanned absence of said staff for medical leave, scheduled vacation, and other forms of short term absence.
- Family Resource Center Case Workers may be asked to participate in minor maintenance of city facilities as used by Family Resource Center programming including minor cleaning and repairs.
- Individual may be required to obtain a State of Michigan chauffer’s license to operate City vehicles providing transportation for youth participating in Family Resource Center programs. Individuals required to operate city vehicles must maintain a driving record in compliance with ordinance 38.03 section (I) Operation of motor vehicles. (License fee reimbursable to staff required to obtain chauffer’s license)
- Participates in preparation of meals.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
