The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking applicants to fill multiple vacant Park Aide positions throughout all of our divisions. This position can be Part-Time, Seasonal, or Full-Time work and is an excellent opportunity for anyone eager to become a County employee.
This current recruitment is being held primarily to fill seasonal positions at Modesto Reservoir, Woodward Reservoir, and Community Parks/County Centers; however, this list may be used to fill future Full-Time or Part-Time vacancies.

THE POSITION
This position performs routine park and grounds maintenance, cleans up related grounds, and operates light ground maintenance equipment. Individuals may be assigned to the Modesto or Woodward Reservoir or any of the various County facilities. This position may collects fees and assists visitors at County parks and reservoirs and is responsible for learning the basic techniques of cash accountability.
Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to Craft/Maintenance/Institutional bargaining unit for labor relations purposes.
Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.
Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).
Part-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.

Typical Tasks
- Perform litter pick-up and garbage collection duties;
- Clean restrooms and public facilities;
- Perform maintenance tasks of a routine nature, such as painting, watering trees and shrubs, mowing lawns, cutting weeds, raking leaves, and sweeping sidewalks;
- Perform manual labor;
- Operate power equipment such as lawn mowers, hedgers, tractors, and trucks;
- Drive vehicles to carry workers to and from various job sites;
- Supervise assigned non-departmental workers;
- Collect and account for park fees;
- Operate a cash register;
- Assist visitors, answer questions concerning County parks, rules and regulations;
- Prepare written financial reports and records;
- Operate a two way radio; and
- Perform routine maintenance tasks.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education/Experience)
SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Deal tactfully and effectively with the public;
- Follow instructions, both oral and written;
- Perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, reaching and manual dexterity;
- Ability to work cohesively with others to achieve a goal;
- Work outdoors in the heat and cold, around chemicals, dust and fumes;
- Work weekends, holidays and irregular hours;
- Supervise non-departmental labor;
- Lift and dump full garbage cans and/or other heavy objects;
- Physically stand six to eight hours daily in a confined space;
- Handle money, prepare reports and maintain records; and
- Operate two way radio.
KNOWLEDGE
- Park maintenance techniques and landscaping practices; and
- Cashiering methods and techniques, involving cash registers.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

- Six (6) months parks, recreation or maintenance experience OR
- One (1) year of work experience/employment OR

EXAMINATION PROCESS
