Description

The person in this position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of athletics and events including event set-up, clean-up, minor custodial duties, keeping score, and general oversight of the facilities where activities are taking place.

The Parks and Recreation Department serves the community by providing health, inspiration, and recreation opportunities through quality programming, facilities, and community events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service to all program participants and rental holders.
  • Complies with the City of Shelton work safety standards and procedures.
  • Assists in all aspects of sports special events including equipment set-up and take-down and recording results.
  • Operating independently, opens facilities, sets up required equipment, monitors adult and youth league activities, records results, and cleans, closes, and secures facilities.
  • Assists with the overseeing of events at the Civic Center.
  • Perform the set-up of tables and chairs as needed before each event, take-down and storage of tables and chairs after events.
  • Work with all user groups, demonstrating a high level of tact, judgement, discretion, and professional expertise.

This is a part-time intermittent position that does not qualify for the standard City of Shelton benefits package.
Qualifications/Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, the person in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience with working with large groups and demonstrate experience in customer service. May have a combination of experience, education, and training that would substitute for the other requirements.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to maintain effective working relationships with community groups, individuals, and staff. To have a tactful manner and clearly convey a willingness to be of service and/or be open to resolving the situation at hand.

WORK SCHEDULE: The person in this position will be required to work on a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
A valid Washington State driver’s license is required.

Insurance Benefits
Employees and their families are covered by medical (including vision), dental and basic life insurance. There are several medical plans with no or very affordable monthly premiums that offer coverage throughout the state.

Employees are also covered by basic life and long-term disability insurance, with the option to purchase additional coverage amounts. An Employee Assistance Program is available to promote the health and well-being of employees.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
City of Shelton Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.

Employees also have the ability to participate in a deferred compensation program with a 6.2% match. This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.

Social Security
City of Shelton employees are only covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness
If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, and meet the qualifying criteria, you may be eligible to receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Holidays
Full-time and part-time employees are entitled to 11 paid holidays and 2 paid personal floating holidays per calendar year.

Note: Employees who are members of certain Unions may be entitled to additional personal leave days.

Sick Leave
Full-time employees earn 8 hours of sick leave per month. Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be pro-rated based on the number of hours in pay status.

Vacation (Annual Leave)
Full-time employees accrue vacation leave at the rates specified in City Policy 200-1501 per this schedule:
Years of Service Vacation Hours Accrued Per Month 0 thru 5 10 Hours Beginning 6 thru 10 14 Hours Beginning 11 thru 15 18 Hours Beginning 16+ 22 Hours

Part-time employees accrue pro-rated vacation leave hours based on their scheduled hours worked.

Military Leave
The City of Shelton supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year.

Bereavement Leave
Most employees whose family member or household member dies, are entitled to three (3) days of paid bereavement leave. In addition, the employer may approve other available leave types for the purpose of bereavement leave.
