Position Summary
Starting Hiring Range: $32,676.80 – 40,019.20, annually
The purpose of this position is to provide park maintenance and support to the Parks & Recreation Department.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs semi-skilled and skilled tasks which require general labor, including: maintenance, installations, inspections, and repairs.
- Performs a variety of general maintenance and support for grounds, parks, and equipment.
- Assists with various landscaping duties as directed including, but not limited to: laying natural material; laying sod; planting and watering; and pulling weeds.
- Organizes and maintains necessary equipment and supplies for daily assignments.
- Performs general labor which may require operating various small power tools and lifting.
- Cleans and performs maintenance on restroom facilities.
- Responsible for following safety procedures and policies, and properly utilizing safety equipment at all times.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion.

Special Requirements
Mobility within a field and outdoor environment is required.
Must be able to work flexible hours, and holidays and weekends as needed.
Subject to be on-call during non-working hours.
Licenses & Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record as established by the City of Midlothian driving standards.
Work Environment
Work involves continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to extreme and inclement weather conditions, disagreeable elements, and noise. Working environment includes the potential of exposure to dust, chemicals, and mechanical hazards. Occasional exposure to moving traffic, fumes, irritants, rodents, and insects. Physical demands require a heavy strength level frequent lifting, carrying, and loading/unloading of objects weighing up to 80 lbs., and occasional pushing and pulling objects up to 100 lbs. Continuous physical exertion, requiring heavy muscular effort with resulting fatigue of arms, legs, back, or sensory faculties. Climbs, kneels, squats, stoops, bends, or walks in confined spaces. May be subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, and operating equipment.

Disability Benefits which are paid 100% by the City for employee only.
* Retirement – The City matches an employee’s required contribution
of 7 % to the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a
contribution of 14%. The retirement program contributions begin upon
date of hire. Employees are vested in the retirement system after five
years of employment and are eligible for retirement after 20 years.
* Vacation Leave – Employees accrue two weeks (80 hours) of paid
vacation each year for the first four years.
* Deferred Compensation – A deferred Compensation (457) plan is administered through ICMA retirement Corporation. The City offers payroll deduction and the employee chooses the amount of investment and investment choices.
* Longevity pay- employees become eligible for this year of continuous service at a rate of $4.00 per month not to exceed twenty-five years.
* Employee Assistance Program – The City provides an employee assistance program through a third-party provider. Each employee has access to employee assistance for various confidential counseling services.
* Flexible Benefit Plan – Dependent health insurance can be deducted from an employee’s pre-tax income. Employees may also participate in a flexible spending account by setting aside pre-tax income to pay unreimbursed health expense and dependent child care.
