The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, Natural and Historic Resources Division is currently seeking a part-time year-round Office Coordinator for the M-NCPPC Black History Program.
The M-NCPPC Black History Program (BHP) preserves, honors, and celebrates black history in Prince George’s County through original research, exhibitions, collections management, educational programming, and historic property stewardship. BHP’s signature programs include an annual Black History Month exhibition, the countywide Juneteenth celebration, and events commemorating Maryland Emancipation Day. BHP oversees four historic properties located throughout Prince George’s County, which document the African American experience: Abraham Hall, Concord Historic Site, Dorsey Chapel, and the Ridgeley Rosenwald School.
This candidate will support the M-NCPPC Black History Program in upholding the four strategic pillars of the Natural and Historic Resources Division (NHRD).

Responsibilities for this position are separated into two primary categories – administrative and rental. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks that support the ongoing research and programmatic work of the M-NCPPC Black History Program. Additionally, this position will serve as rental coordinator for Dorsey Chapel. Located in Glenn Dale, MD, Dorsey Chapel is a popular historic rental facility managed by the M-NCPPC Black History Program. Clients book the chapel for a variety of intimate gatherings, notably church services and weddings. The facility is open for rentals seven days a week from 9 am – 6 pm.
This position pays at a rate of $16.25/hour to $22.10/hour dependent on experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will be based at the M-NCPPC Black History Program’s main office located in Beltsville, MD.
Examples of Important Duties
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Serves as front-line staff during office open hours, providing guided tours on an as-needed basis.
- Answers telephones and directs calls.
- Updates and maintains office policies, procedures, and coordinates maintenance of office equipment.
- Coordinates and schedules maintenance tasks at historic sites using internal reporting system.
- Receives, opens, sorts, and distributes incoming correspondence.
- With staff, maintains administrative calendars and financial spreadsheets.
- Assists with controlling and tracking expenditures.
- Maintains and updates digital listserv; sends out email correspondence to listserv members.
- Assists full-time staff as needed and fulfill other duties as assigned.
Rental Responsibilities:
- Schedules and/or provide tours to prospective rental clients.
- Serves as primary point of contact for rental clients from the point of booking to the conclusion of their rental event.
- Enters rental events into the Commission’s online booking system.
- Tracks and processes rental payments using the Commission’s POS system.
- Schedules rental support staff and provides staff with information required for each rental event.
- Makes bank deposits and tracks rental revenue and visitation data monthly.
- Maintains physical and digital file collection of rental contracts and other associated data.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in the administrative field.
- Excellent computer skills including typical Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, TEAMS, etc.).
- Must be at least 21 years old with a valid government issued driver’s license.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds and comfortably navigate stairs.
Supplemental Information
- The position is part time, 24 – 32 hours per week.
- Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 10 am – 4 pm, but some evenings and weekends may be required.
- Position does not qualify for benefits.
- A background investigation will be completed prior to hire.

Health Insurance Plans
You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.
If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.
Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
