The purpose of this entry level position is to assist in overseeing programs, athletics and activities, including supervision of facilities, equipment, and supplies. This position works under close to general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Assistant Manager or Parks and Recreation Manager I, according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks.

  • Under supervision, assists in planning, directing and implementing a broad and varied program of parks and recreation activities and services to meet the needs of the public, including special events for leisure activities, athletics, tournaments, festivals, concerts, fairs and expositions.
  • Under supervision, leads specific recreational and athletic programs and services in accordance with the interests and needs of the public.
  • Assists Management in planning program specific budgets.
  • Assists Management in the creation of flyers, press releases, newsletters, banners, etc., and promotes programs and submit for review to Management.
  • Assists Management in overseeing use of facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Evaluates equipment and material needs for assigned recreational programs and coordinates the recruitment and procurement of materials as needed and approved.
  • Maintains accurate records pertaining to revenue, personnel, inventory, program evaluations, and attendance and submits for review to Management.
  • Provides excellent customer service to employees and members of the public.
  • Enforces rules and regulations of the facility with the public, updates policies and procedures.
  • Some positions may be required to travel between multiple locations during shifts based on programming needs.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Current CPR and First Aid Certification (or must obtain within 30 days of hire).

Preferred Experience
Six (6) months experience working with in parks and recreation, or the public/customer service or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of assigned facility.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and implementing programs and activities.

  • Ability to organize and give direct leadership for programs and special events.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, co-workers, the general public, community groups, City officials, and other City employees.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to accept, receive, and collect payments, process purchase orders, and maintain inventory.

Physical Demands
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Work Environment
The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions: no effective protection from the weather. The worker is subject to extreme heat: temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. The worker is subject to noise: there is sufficient noise to cause the workers to shout in order to be heard above the surrounding noise level. The employee works in a dynamic environment that requires them to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.

Work Hours: Work is performed Sunday-Saturday with varied shifts/hours between 7:30am-10:00pm
