Description / Position Overview
SEASONAL – Communications Internship
We are seeking an intern to assist with community relations programs and outreach.
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker’s Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees’ Retirement Association).Anticipated dates of employment are from June through August. Work schedule will be up to 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with some potential weekend and holiday work. Traditional work hours are 8 am to 5 pm, with an hour break for lunch. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.
Essential Job Functions – the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
- Draft and organize promotional materials in support of both City of Colorado Springs and Olympic City USA-specific programs and initiatives
- Coordinate volunteers for community events
- Write social media posts and assist with marketing efforts
- Assist with a variety of communications-related tasks
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Dependability and strong attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment, handle duties with a high degree of accuracy, multitask and work under tight deadlines
Successful candidates will have
- A current, full-time junior, senior, or graduate student seeking a degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Administration or related field
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
Ideal candidates will also have
- Interest in and knowledge of the Colorado Springs community

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
