Job Summary
Provide tutorial, training, and instructional support to students in an open lab.
Essential Functions
Assist students with course and laboratory assignments. Provide lab work based on identified problem areas. Facilitate customized learning sessions for individuals or groups on specific subjects, procedures, or use of equipment and materials. Review work assignments and suggest resource material to study.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials to include lab equipment and supplies necessary to conduct laboratory activities. Ensure laboratory equipment is functioning and well maintained. Perform routine repairs, develop and implement computer tutorials, and facilitate computer testing, collect exams, and record grades.
Monitor lab activities to ensure a safe learning environment. Provide orientation to faculty, staff, and students in the use of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies. Develop and maintain an inventory system for instructional materials, equipment, and supplies.
Distribute and retrieve classroom resources in a self-paced learning environment. Maintain usage records and monitor materials returned.
Provide work direction to assigned part-time or student workers staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Associate’s Degree and three (3) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Highly effective (oral and written) communication and telephone etiquette skills.
3. Experience providing effective customer service and assisting students in a lab setting.
4. Experience working with equipment in a Makerspace Lab, such as 3D printers and laser cutters.
5. Experience with software like AutoDesk (Fushion360 or Inventor), Rhino3D, VCarve, Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape.
6. Effective analytical skills and ability to multi-task.
7. Experience developing and maintaining inventory records.
8. Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining lab equipment.
9. Experience supervising personnel.
10. Experience conducting orientations.
11. Proficient computer skills to include internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point.
