Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience with systems and security administration of Microsoft server operating systems, Microsoft Active Directory, and on premise and/or cloud-based Microsoft Exchange.
- Experience working in and supporting public safety organizations is preferred.
- Familiarity with PMI Project Management concepts, terms, and methodologies and the ability to apply them to various messaging system projects.
- Knowledge and skill scripting using popular tools like PowerShell, Python, and/or PHP. Skills in utilizing software that support a public safety agency preferred.
- Must possess a Florida driver’s license and maintain throughout employment without any restrictions affecting job performance.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current CJIS certification Level 4 or higher or the ability to obtain the certification within ten (10) business days of employment required.
Nature of Work
Under administrative direction, this is specialized information systems work supporting the architecture and management of the messaging operating infrastructure and platforms using wired, and wireless servers, desktop computers and mobile devices within the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Position is responsible for managing recipients, mailboxes, transport, mail flow, administrative roles, threat protection, compliance, migrations, and client connectivity. Position performs directory integration to ensure user functionality of the related systems. Work involves building, configuring, and troubleshooting messaging system enhancements, application deployments and infrastructure up-grades. Position provides hands-on system administrative support, system maintenance and operations support. Perform related work as directed.
Essential Functions/Physical Requirements
Supports all messaging operating systems and platforms using wired and wireless servers, desktop computers, and mobile devices including current and still supported versions of Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SCCM, Zoom, KnowBe4, messaging archivers, security systems, and text messaging.
Installs, configures, modifies, deploys, administers, optimizes, upgrades, virtualizes, secures, protects, migrates, interfaces, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs, cloud-based, on-premise, and mobile messaging systems, and platforms necessary to support the daily and strategic operations of the agency.
Provides troubleshooting, root cause analysis and resolution for Level 2 and 3 requests for service.
Provides assistance to information technology professionals engaged in various phases of messaging operating systems administration.
Develops and maintains responsible contact with end user management and administrative supervisors.
Identifies scope, objectives, and methodologies for the purpose of developing and implementing project/program procedures and schedules.
Stays current with the latest threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities to messaging systems and platforms.
Ensure that messaging systems are kept patched in a timely manner on a consistent basis.
Ensures that all BSO messaging platforms and systems maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, FBI and FDLE CJIS guidelines, CALEA certification, and industry best practices.
Identifies and incorporates best business practices and technologies in support of BSO operational units.
Participates in planning sessions to identify business gaps and assist in leveraging technologies to eliminate those gaps.
Excellent communication, facilitation, organization, planning, and follow through skills.
Monitors and reports on progress and benefits of implemented technologies.
May document internal policies or develop training for end-users
Ability to work “On-call” for messaging related issues after normal business hours.
Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Work is performed in usual office conditions with rare exposure to disagreeable environmental factors.
