Summary
Cares and attends to animals.
Essential Functions
- Feed and water animals as needed;
- Clean and disinfect cages, pens, and yards and sterilizes equipment;
- Keep all work spaces tidy & free of debris;
- Help citizens with questions/concerns & adoption process;
- Examine animals for signs of illness and notate on vet list;
- Transfers animals between quarters;
- Record information according to instructions;
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent with an additional one year experience attending animals or any combination of experience and education that provides the following:
Valid Current Driver’s License
Physical Exam Required
Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to:
- Work with animals;
- Deal effectively with the public;
- Handle unpredictable animals;
- Operate the following equipment: catch pole, hose, squeegee, mop, broom;
- Communicate effectively with others
Physical Requirements
- Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
- Continuously walk and/or stand during the shift;
- Climb ladders or stairs;
- Frequently bend and kneel in order to pick up animals and clean pens on the ground;
- Push and pull objects for instance dogs attached to a catch pole or leash;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward and at the waist and partially flexing of knees;
- Reach at and below shoulder height.
Part-time employees who have at least six (6) months continuous employment may be paid for all holidays except the Veterans Day floating holiday. Part-time employees are not eligible for the Veteran’s Day floating holiday because City offices are not closed on that day. The number of hours granted these employees as holiday pay is based on the average number of hours normally worked in a day.
The City designates the eleven (11) following dates as holidays to be observed with pay:
