Job Description
Performs difficult professional work supervising social workers and a processing assistant in the Adult Services unit of the Department of Social Services providing direct and indirect services to clients. Work is performed under the general direction of the Social Services Deputy Director.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision of social workers addressing serious and complicated cases which require the flexible use of a wide range of social work skills and intervention techniques in the Adult Services unit of the Department of Social Services.
  • Assign cases to staff and maintain workflow.
  • Provide on-the-job training for staff and arrange for staff to receive programmatic state trainings.
  • Disseminates policy and other pertinent information to ensure that the staff maintains a working level of knowledge and skill; and prepares and implements unit operating procedures to ensure an effective workflow.
  • Review program objectives and service delivery needs with staff and formulate specific goals and objectives for the assigned program area. This position also ensures these goals are implemented and met.
  • Monitor the work of subordinate staff through case reviews, progress reports, conferences, and information discussions to assure compliance with operational standards and established policies.
  • Evaluate staff performance and make recommendations regarding personnel action, counsel staff regarding performance and employee personnel policies.
  • Provide input to higher level management on administrative, personnel, and budget issues.
  • Respond to community inquiries to educate the public in the services which the agency provides; and respond to concerns and complaints from citizens or officials to clarify policy and procedure.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Perform assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member.

Qualifications
Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. The ability to represent the agency in working with other community agencies and resources that serve vulnerable adults.
Education, Experience, and Special Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in social work or in a related human services field and four years of directly related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

NC401k
The County contributes 1/2% of employees’ gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee’s deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 2%.

Vacation Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.

Sick Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.

Paid Holidays
County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.
