JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Patient Registration Specialist Pay Rate $13.00
Reports To: Chief Administrative Officer, Practice Manager, Manager Registration or Patient Registration Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Urgent Care
Summary: Provides assistance to patients by checking in and checking out, including registration and completing of coding and charging.
Duties:
- Greets patients and provides assistance to patients in order for them to be processed quickly and efficiently. Ensures that accurate appointment and insurance information is obtained and passed on to the patient.
- Obtains data on each patient to ensure correct billing procedures.
- Process registration of all new patients to include obtaining all necessary data, verification of insurance coverage and creation of the patient charts by coding.
- Process registration of GMG Family Practice, Radiology, or other GMG patients as necessary after regular business hours or on weekends.
- Collects appropriate fees and co-pays at the time of registration. Issues receipts for all monies taken.
- Prepares all patient insurance, disability and claim forms.
- Follows appropriate cash control procedures.
- Balances all Patient Registration Services close outs and prepares daily bank deposits and may be expected to deposit in the bank.
- Balances cash bag at the end of the day.
- Maintains eligibility information in the computer system.
- Assists walk-ins and urgent care patients in obtaining appointments.
- Makes and distributes new patient medical charts.
- Assists patients with routine questions.
- Answers incoming phone calls.
- Maintains a clean and professional front office area.
- Follows all HIPAA rules and regulations.

Education and Experience: Minimum High School Diploma Minimum 2+ years with physician office or outpatient registration experience preferred. Data entry, telephone service experience and medical insurance knowledge required. An understanding of Medicare, HMO, PPO’s and a clear understanding of the difference between all benefit packages recommended. Bilingual Spanish preferred. Ability to complete efficient and accurate data entry at a computer terminal, typing at least 30 words per minute. Excellent interpersonal skills for interaction with patients, physicians and other clinical staff. Excellent communications skills – written and verbal. Attentive to detail with a propensity for completeness.
Work Environment: Clinic setting. Exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
Physical Demands: Requires manual dexterity, sitting, standing, stooping reaching, kneeling crouching, bending, walking and lifting up to 40 pounds. Close vision and ability to adjust focus and adequate hearing for extensive telephone work.
