Hiring Range: $39,313.00 – $42,526.00
Hours: Monday – Friday 6:30 am – 3:00 pm; evenings, weekends and some holidays will be required

Position devoted to providing landscaping services, collecting, transporting, and disposing yard waste/trash and custodial services. Maintaining and repairing Parks and Recreation fields and facilities, City property, and equipment. Incumbents perform standardized work following prescribed procedures and instructions, while completing tasks independently. Responsible for cleaning and maintenance of facilities and grounds; performing basic repairs under the supervision of higher-level staff. Operating commercial mowing and landscaping equipment (Zero Turn Mowers, Reel mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, and other handheld landscaping equipment) and responsibilities will be assigned at times relating to turf care, athletic field, and/or ballfield maintenance including the operation of athletic field maintenance equipment including tractors, ballfield groomers, artificial turf grooming equipment, and aerators. Special event setups, field layout and lining/painting for athletic events, and custodial experience in a public setting.
Duties/Responsibilities

  • Maintains grounds including maintaining plant beds, trees and shrubs, mowing grass, trimming weeds, and applying fertilizers and chemicals. Cleans and maintains assigned facilitiesfacilities.
  • Assignments can include athletic field and ballfield maintenance, dragging and lining athletic fields.
  • Performs seasonal duties including snow and ice removal and picking up leaves and other trash.
  • Performs basic repairs under the supervision of higher-level staff; performs manual and construction duties; inspects facilities and equipment for maintenance-related issues; reports issues to higher-level staff; and operates light equipment and vehicles, as assigned.
  • Performs traffic control duties, including locating identified positions; installing signs; painting and maintaining pavement markings; loading, unloading, and setting up barricades; and directing traffic during special events.
  • Maintains reports, records, logs, and other documents as assigned; provides shop assistance; and maintains inventories by stocking, monitoring, and/or ordering supplies. Completes service requests and work orders using City Works.
  • Provides customer service, including responding to customer questions and concerns.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
  • Two years of maintenance experience related to assignment.
  • Valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver’s license “or” if you currently have another state driver’s license, must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire.
