Job Description
NEW starting wage effective 4-30-23 of $19.61/hr!! Johnson County Mental Health is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of a full time with benefits, Behavioral Health Specialist for the Adolescent Center for Treatment. The Adolescent Center for Treatment is a substance use disorder, residential treatment program at The Recovery Place in Shawnee. The unit has 24/7 operations and typically individuals stay in the program for up to 28 days. This position provides direct care to the youth for the entirety of their shift as the position priority is the safe and secure monitoring/supervising of the youth. Job will remain posted until filled.
Several schedules are available. This position is eligible for a shift differential specific to overnight hours($1.50/hr), weekend hours ($0.75/hr), and evening hours ($0.75/hr).
Job duties include:
- Provides direct care to the youth for the entirety of their shift as the position priority is the safe and secure monitoring/supervising of the youth.
- Provides, assists with, or coaches individuals on personal care needs with limited supervision; provides crisis interventions (including evidence based practices to maintain the safety of individuals); monitors youth interactions and behaviors; monitors medication administration as prescribed; monitors and documents mental and physical condition of individuals.
- Teaches, coaches and provides guidance and support on various skills to enable productive lives of individuals; assists youth with managing their emotions, assists and supports individual treatment/recovery goals and assist youth in developing positive coping skills; develops and maintains a positive and effective relationship with service recipients, families, and other service providers.
- Organizes and participates in meetings related to care coordination; completes documentation for direct services provided to ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Transports individuals receiving services to appointments, activities, and/or work.
Job Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of experience working in a human services field are required. A valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record is preferred.
Experience working with adolescents in a behavioral health setting is preferred.
Education can substitute for experience.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
