The University of Cincinnati (UC), Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Assistant Photographer to work in the Bearcats Digital studio. This is a term-limited, 12-month minimum position eligible for a 12-month extension (2 years maximum) based on performance and evaluation. The position will report to the Director, Digital Media and Strategy.
This entry-level position is ideal for individuals interested in a career as a sports creative. UC has a proud history of placing graduate assistants, interns, and capstone students in full-time positions around the country. Upon the conclusion of the term, candidates will have:
Gained significant and meaningful experience equivalent to a full-time collegiate photographer.
Created images consumed by hundreds of thousands of people on social media and in-venue.
Accumulated supervisory experience in the management of student interns.
Equipped themselves with the foundational knowledge, skills, networking, and support necessary to pursue a full-time position.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist with and shoot game-day events, providing a set of images for an array of purposes (website, social media, archival, etc.)
- Assist with other photography needs, including headshots and posed action pictures
- Aid athletic department by taking images during special events (golf outings, galas, etc.), as well as photographing facilities
- Edit photographs using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom)
- Archive photographs using department photo digital asset management system, Canto
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree
- Contract: One-year position with an option for a second-year renewal
- Photography Skills: Experience with DSLR and professional-grade cameras
- Software Proficiency: Adobe Creative Suite
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate clearly with coaches, administrators, and staff
- Photo Production: Experience in shooting, editing, and lighting
- Catalog Management: Experience with metadata and organizing photo catalogues
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities
- Work Ethic: Highly motivated, hardworking, and team-oriented individual seeking career advancement
- Thinking Skills: Possess critical, creative, and innovative thinking abilities
- Additional Experience: Graphics experience is a plus
- Availability: Willingness to work nights and weekends
Employee will not be required to have their own equipment.
This is a 40-hour per week, hourly position that will pay $10/hr. A fully-furnished off-campus apartment is also provided.
