Job Description
An employee in this class is responsible for assisting the full-time staff in the Special Events division of Burlington Recreation & Parks Department. This includes assisting with the marketing and promotions of events through social media and overseeing the accuracy of the website. In addition to marketing, support is provided by handling administrative tasks related to event planning and coordination. Work is performed under the supervision of the Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor of Special Events. This job classification is considered Part Time with Retirement.
Performs administrative duties related to marketing and promotions along with assisting with event planning, coordination and execution of special events.
Examples of Duties
- Provides administrative support to marketing and promotions for Recreation Special Events (in office M-F)
- Assists with organizing, planning and execution of Recreation Special Events (evenings & weekends)
- Manages marketing materials through social media, website, and utilization of Google Forms
- Performs ambassador role at events by overseeing major components and staff
- Serve as a website administrator for the Recreation and Parks Department website
- Performs related duties as required
Qualifications
- Considerable knowledge in planning, organizing, and implementing events
- Considerable knowledge of social media platforms and design
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to think creatively, out of the box and innovative
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with part-time and full-time staff
Education and Experience
- Completion of a High School degree required
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Special Events or Recreation background is preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Work in this class is described as medium and frequently requires physical exertion to complete tasks and move objects. Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Work necessitates visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned. Working conditions include both inside and outside.
The City of Burlington is required to enroll individuals in the Local Government branch of the North Carolina State Retirement System when they work in part-time positions that require more than 1000 work hours per calendar year.
