Description

Summary
The Material Handler on 2nd shift works with Inventory Control and Manufacturing teams to maintain a high standard of material handling and accuracy by completing assigned daily material movements, weekly, and monthly cycle-counting tasks, location/bin audits, by providing employee coaching on standard inventory and material practices, and by effectively conducting inter-departmental communications. Supports and is responsive to employees and leadership in cross-functional departments, including: manufacturing floor, shipping/receiving, customer service, engineering, purchasing and sales.

Working Hours: This full-time, benefit-eligible role works four (4) 10-hour work-days, on second shift from 3:00pm-1:00am, on a Monday through Thursday workweek. Employees on this shift enjoy three-day weekends – every week! Additional flexibility to work alternate days/hours, or overtime hours, may be required on occasion for special projects, company initiatives, and/or coverage assistance.

Dress Code: Metal-Era believes in a comfortable dress code; so employees are free to wear jeans to work every day! For safety, employees must have safety-toed (steel or composite toe) shoes, and we provide the required safety glasses and gloves when working in our fabrication shop.

Compensation: The target pay range for this position is $18.00 to $22.00 per hour (based on your level of experience). The second shift offers the pay rate differential of an additional $2 per hour worked. Additionally, Metal-Era offers all employees a monthly manufacturing bonus program whereby you can earn up to $200.00 additional compensation each month!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide an exceptional level of service that supports the delivery of our SPEQ Promise (Speed, Protection, Expertise and Quality) to our employees, partners, and external customers.
  2. Accurately retrieve allocated materials, record material movements, prepare job kits consisting of 4’x12′ sheets of metal.
  3. Replenish warehouse raw material stock locations.
  4. Assist Receiving team in storage of newly received materials.
  5. Accurately perform daily cycle counts on raw materials and WIP.
  6. Research and reconcile any known or discovered discrepancies between cycle counts and reported inventory quantities.
  7. Process incoming requests (in-person, telephonic, instant message and email) from engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and other interdependent departments;
  8. Build and maintain positive, productive and professional working relationships with all employees as a primary point of contact for all inventory-related inquiries.
  9. Coach and train peer-level employees on proper inventory practices and procedures.
  10. Use forklifts and combi-lifts to stock both raw materials and stage upcoming orders.
  11. Assist with various continuous improvement, lean, and 6S projects, as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of this position.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent; plus 2+ years’ experience in completing material handling-related and/or cycle-counting duties. Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1+ year(s) experience in using and operating a forklift is a must.
  • 1+ years’ experience working with an ERP System. Experience with the “SAGE” ERP platform a plus.
  • Strong computing skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Word.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work independently, effectively time-managing and prioritizing one’s own workload.
  • High attention to detail and a consistent history of accuracy in completed work.
  • Proficient with interpersonal communication, both in written and verbal forms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus!
  • Experience in training, coaching, or otherwise influencing the behavior of others, with or without a formal leadership title or experience.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50-pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The position is primarily a manufacturing plant floor role, with exposure to regular factory noise. On occasion, the incumbent will be exposed to outdoor conditions when working on-or-around loading docks.

The role has a primary set schedule, depending on the shift; however, some projects and initiatives may require the flexibility to occasionally work on weekends or during alternate-shift hours .
