What the Testing and Reading Coordinator does:
In coordination with the Classroom and Program Support Staff, Behavior and Related Services Departments, the Testing and Reading Coordinator provides leadership and coordination in educational assessment as identified by Virginia & D.C. In addition, the Testing and Reading Coordinator:
- Trains classroom staff in the use of appropriate testing instruments and ensures accommodations are available to students during assessments.
- Plans and conducting staff development activities that focus on the use of data and assessment to enhance learning and collaborative instructional planning.
- Coordinates with the Specials Education Staff and Related Service staff in scheduling for assessments
- Attends all meetings related to testing for Virginia and D.C.
- Provides individual and small group testing and reading interventions.
- Assists teachers for IEP educational testing as needed.
- Coordinates, organizes, and administers state assessments, DC PARCC/Science DLM, WIDA Test, VA-SOL, related assessments to include alternative state assessments (DC-MSAA, VA-VAAP) and Career and Technology Tests (WorkKeys, WISE).
- Manages and trains classroom staff on the implementation of benchmark assessments.
- Certifying as to the ethical testing practice within the school building and providing training to staff on ethical testing, test security, and data reporting procedures.
- Provides teachers and instructional support staff with assistance in developing and using local assessments to better align instruction to student needs.
- May perform teacher responsibilities and duties in support of testing.
- Provides academic support and remediation to students with deficits in core subject areas as needed.
Qualifications
What the Testing and Reading Coordinator brings to the team:
- Masters in Reading Instruction and Curriculum (preferred).
- Reading Endorsement
- 3 years of successful experience in Special Education.
- Additional coursework or successful experience administering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
