Job Description
In this role, you will:
• Regulate the locating, drilling, operating, and plugging of wells used for exploration and production of oil, gas, brine, and minerals as well as for underground storage and waste disposal.
• In assigned geographical area of northern Michigan, conduct on-site field inspections often in remote locations in all seasons and weather conditions.
• Through training and experience, grow and expand your technical knowledge.
• Protect the environment impacted by oil and gas operations by ensuring that remedial response activities comply with regulations and department policies. Review hydrogeological investigation and other environmental reports.
• Serve the community and stakeholders by resolving concerns through communication and education.
• Join a dynamic and cohesive team to assist in the implementation of division programs to ensure the protection of natural resources, the environment, property, and public health and safety.
Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in geology or geological, petroleum or mining engineering.
Experience
Geologist 9

One year of professional experience in carrying out geological activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources equivalent to a Geologist 9.
Geologist P11
Two years of professional experience in carrying out geological activities to protect, develop and maintain natural resources equivalent to a Geologist, including one year equivalent to a Geologist 10.
Alternate Education and Experience
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in environmental geoscience, earth science, or environmental science with 15 semester (23 quarter term) credits in the following core geology classes: physical geology, sedimentology/stratigraphy, mineralogy/petrology, structural geology and field instruction. In addition, the candidate must have 21 semester (32 quarter term) credits in elective geology coursework; and two courses each in calculus, chemistry and physics.
