The hourly student Project Biotech Lab Assistant will support Project Biotech instructors during the summer camps. Roles include assisting with preparation of samples, reagents, and equipment before and after camp, cleaning up lab areas, helping campers (high school students) during camp by demonstrating technique, answering questions, assuring students are following proper lab safety procedures. Lab technician may also be asked to run errands to other buildings on campus.
Dates:
- Camp 1- 7/5/23-7/6/23 (5 hrs./day, 9-2 PM) and 7/10/23-7/12/23 (5 hrs./day, 12-5 PM)
- Camp 2- 7/19/23-7/20/23 (5 hrs./day, 9-2 PM) and 7/24/23-7/26/23 (5 hrs./day, 12-5 PM)
- Camp 3- 8/2/23-8/3/23 (6.5 hrs./day, 9-3:30 PM) and 8/7/23, 8/9/23-8/10/23 (5 hrs./day, 12:30-4:30 PM)
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, bacterial transformation, gene cloning, DNA gel electrophoresis)
- Familiarity with lab safety protocols
- Able to commit to the hours listed for each camp
- Preference given to current students or graduates

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:
This is a temporary hourly position. Employers maintain an “at-will” employment relationship meaning that either you or the College may terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS
A part time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution’s definition of full time.
A part time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
