Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Focuses on technical engineering of Radio/TV production, Media School lab, and Cuban Center recorded productions, remote, field and post productions, instructional productions, Media School lab and studio productions, and includes analysis and problem solving for split-second decisions concerning signal quality.
- Serves as lead engineer (EIC) in the update, planning and support of Radio TV Service and The Media School and Cuban Center SD/HD/UHD digital video production facilities.
General Responsibilities
- Monitors productions and signals, determines proper operation of broadcast quality equipment, provides troubleshooting guidance, and corrects basic and complex issues involving sound quality, production playback, and file transfer.
- Manages, designs, plans, installs, operates, and maintains video production facilities, tape and server recording and editing equipment, and lighting and stage equipment, including digital cameras, switchers, graphics, routing, recording, playback, encoding, embedding, compression, and multiplexing with multiple layers of audio.
- Assesses equipment needs for productions, procures necessary materials, and configures installation to ensure consistent operations during production.
- Designs and implements preventive maintenance schedules and operating procedures to maintain equipment.
- Regularly tests, adjusts, and evaluates installed systems and approves post-production media for technical quality for release to other broadcasters.
- May train Broadcast Technicians and/or Audio/Video Technicians on procedures and production equipment operations.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in broadcast engineering, production engineering and/or related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years in related field
Preferred
- 3 years of broadcast engineering experience
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
- Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University.
Preferred
- Certification as SBE CBT (Certified Broadcast Technologist) level or above

Working Conditions / Demands
This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors; detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
The position involves frequently changing priorities while managing multiple projects and productions and maintaining 24/7 broadcast operation¿may require working some weekends and holidays , nights, holidays and be on-call for engineering emergency response.
Driving, traveling, and transporting equipment between venues is necessary.

$47,132.88 – $50,511.00 per year based upon experience and internal equity within the department
