HEALTH EDUCATOR III; TOBACCO PREVENTION – BISBEE

ANTICIPATED SALARY: $41,101 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package to include membership in the Arizona State Retirement System

NATURE OF WORK: Under limited supervision performs complex work in a public health
setting; providing services and education regarding health issues specific to tobacco and vaping prevention. Builds sustainability through policy implementation and advocacy through public health programs to individuals, groups, schools, businesses and/or community organizations. May perform other related work as assigned.
Essential Functions

TYPICAL DUTIES: (Illustrative Only) Uses established guidelines to implement and deliver tobacco prevention programming with adults; and/or facilitates and develops youth coalitions throughout the county. Evaluates program results; develops, selects, and revises educational materials; develops and implements educational plans; provides tobacco/vaping preventive health education; conducts marketing and community outreach to increase services; ensures accurate documentation and recordkeeping; prepares media articles; completes administrative program reports as assigned or required; assists with the orientation and training of new staff; assists with the evaluation and continuous quality program improvements as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in
health care, medical care, early childhood, special education, elementary education, secondary education, social work, nutrition, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license and the ability to be covered by county insurance.
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved may be considered.
Preference may be given to those that have classroom management skills/experience, and have exceptional presentation skills.

Considerable knowledge of:
- fundamental theories, concepts and methods of health education;
- teaching, counseling, and evaluating methods applicable to health education;
- public health programs, functions, and services;
- prevention/control methods of communicable diseases;
- basic health care practices and collection of health information;
- the organization of health and nutrition services and referral resources;
- the principles of adult learning and teaching skills;
- dynamics of social interaction and behavior.
Considerable skill in:
- gathering, evaluating and analyzing data;
- implementing health education programs;
- interpreting and following policies and procedures;
- eliciting information through interviews and collecting client information;
- training and counseling techniques;
- office practices and procedures to include the use of computer programs.
Ability to:
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public;
- follow the policy and procedure manual for the program;
- prepare and maintain records, charts and reports;
- applying pertinent rules and regulations required to conduct eligibility tasks;
- follow written and verbal instruction;

- work well with people of varied socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily performed under limited supervision. Incumbent generally performs work in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls and travel between work locations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, fine or large motor skills, ability to communicate.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds requires a good deal of walking or standing.
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem-solving skills are important.
