SUMMARY

Supports the school as an Instructional Coach

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in Education (must be conferred)
  • Current Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Five years of teaching experience in a public school
  • Employed as a teacher in a public school within the last three years
  • Leadership roles in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and teacher coaching
  • Two years of experience as an instructional coach

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

THE LIST OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUPPLEMENTED.

  • Supporting and articulating the school’s vision and mission
  • Assisting school leadership in the writing and implementing of the school’s improvement plan
  • Coaching/mentoring teachers to support school leadership in ensuring lessons and classroom activities provide a variety of instructional strategies and grouping practices that engage students and allow multiple pathways for students to master the state academic standards
  • Modeling and demonstrating effective lessons for teachers to improve teaching practices
  • Assisting teachers in using various types of data to inform instruction
  • Participating and working cooperatively to facilitate data discussions and professional learning communities
  • Supporting teachers to promote consistent, systematic, focused, and responsive monitoring of student progress
  • Supporting school leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of school programs
  • Assisting school leadership in the development and ongoing implementation of professional development opportunities for teachers
  • Working cooperatively with school leadership in the implementation of Governing Board policies and procedures and administrative regulations
  • Collaborating with ADE Turnaround personnel and fully supporting the State Intervention mission and vision.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required for School Improvement Specialist include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrating knowledge of and experience with AZ Merit and Every Student Succeeds Act
  • Demonstrating knowledge of and experience with leadership theories and practices
  • Demonstrating knowledge of and experience with change processes
  • Demonstrating knowledge of and experience with school improvement processes
  • Demonstrating knowledge of and experience in effective job-embedded professional development
  • Demonstrating content expertise in the areas of reading, writing, and math
  • Demonstrating effective instructional practices
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and use data to inform instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coach teachers
  • Demonstrating effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to present effectively to large and small groups
  • Developing and monitoring curriculum guidelines, maps, and standard-based lessons
  • Developing and monitoring formative and summative assessments
  • Promoting positive public relations

MENTAL TASKS:

Communicates. Performs functions from oral and written instructions. Evaluates written materials.

PHYSICAL TASKS:

Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion is not normally required to perform all aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting for extended periods of time, and requires moving from one location to another, reaching, stooping, bending, holding, and grasping objects. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties. Verbal communicative ability may be required in public contact positions.

EQUIPMENT, AIDS, TOOLS, MATERIALS:

Utilize office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers, and copiers.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

Employees will have the opportunity to attend workshops, conferences, and utilize other professional development opportunities to improve his/her skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors. Office environment. Contact with employees and the public.
