We are looking for:
• Someone who will work with scientists to develop new polymeric systems for application in the Aerospace market.
• Document research on composite materials (including, but not limited to resin/chemical/thermal/physical analysis, composite product development, and resin/composite mechanical/environmental performance, microstructural characterization to understand failure mods and performance).
• Provide guidance to teams of personnel that can then lead experiments in support of research projects directly supporting customer needs.
• Support the Research and Innovation group with technical expertise as required.
• Jointly work with other team members to maintain a safe lab work environment and implement safe operating procedures to ensure an accident-free record and maintenance of compliance.
• Research and lead new company initiatives incorporating current technologies with future adaptations and advancements.
• Key technical interface working with variety of customers and theorizing new technical offerings to the marketplace; work with scientists to develop new composite systems for application in the Aerospace market.
• Compile and analyze results under guided direction into internal reports and presentations.
• Help lead experiments in support of research projects and support various working teams with technical expertise as required.
• Provide field technical support to major aerospace OEM and subcontractors for new and legacy programs and feed information to both CDM leadership and Solvay teams.
• Lead and support projects requiring material manufacturing, prototyping, and part builds from thermoset prepregs, thermoplastics, adhesives, primers, and surfacing films with processes including autoclave, out-of-autoclave, press-molding, resin infusion.
• Identify and lead resolution of material issues in aerospace composite shops. Act as the “Voice of the Customer” to liaise with the greater part of Solvay to affect a mutually acceptable resolution.
• Advise customers on processing and properties of Solvay products. Ability to support trade studies to differentiate between and provide recommendations on product options and selection based on customer parts & applications. Contact levels will range from shop floor mechanics to senior management in procurement, engineering, research/development, quality, and manufacturing areas.
• Lead and support research and development activities that aim at achieving technical and business objectives.
• Support simulation analysis and development for composite part manufacturing and structural performance
• Identify potential new applications for Solvay products and support Account Managers in capturing new business, assessing market trends, developing business cases, and evaluating competitor’s materials. Identify and foster new processes for material deposition, forming, and curing to support technology adoption on aerospace platforms.
• Accompany customers as needed on Solvay site audits and visits, leading where required.
• Support and/or lead targeted projects in Solvay or customer shops. Areas include product configuration, capability, cost reductions, problem solving, Lean manufacturing, etc.
• Support characterization and reducibility studies of new material developments
• Comprehend CDM business strategies to establish objectives and customer touch points at assigned accounts, working in concert with Key Account Managers as well.
• Support coordination of conformance and specification issues between Solvay plants, CDM leadership and other departments as necessary.
• Provide support for customers outside the CDM business as appropriate.
• Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on multiple aspects of composite part manufacture.
• Self-motivated, creative and innovative thinker able to approach problems and goals from a number of directions and develop novel practicable solutions.
You will bring:
• Bachelor’s degree minimum (in relevant Engineering or Material Science discipline)
• Graduate degree in chemistry, materials science or related subject preferred.
• Knowledge of chemistry sufficient to undertake independent formulation research with guidance from senior chemists.
• Demonstrable knowledge or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the requirements of aerospace composite materials
• Knowledge of aerospace composite part fabrication polymer and material characterization. Part fabrication experience preferred.
• Experience resolving product and process capability issues in composite part applications.
• Minimum 5 years demonstrated work experience including: problem solving, technical presentations, project management, relationship building, and identification of new opportunities.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience on reviewing composite part designs / drawings for manufacturability and specification compliance.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience on Research and Development of composite materials and processing technologies including simulation.
• Understanding of the aerospace industry including OEMs, their suppliers, various programs, aerospace quality systems, composite testing requirements, statistical process control and capability, etc.

• Experience with composite material related testing protocols and standards such as ASTM, CMH-17, SAE, among others.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers and management in both verbal and written forms. Can communicate/demonstrate well-defined and documented technical information.

- The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $129,744, to $162,180 per year.
- Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range.
