The New Milford Public School system is seeking a well-qualified educational leader to serve as Supervisor of Special Education, Grades 6-12. This position calls for someone knowledgeable in special education and possessing excellent organizational and leadership skills. The ideal candidate shall demonstrate expertise in scheduling, budgeting and secondary special education instructional practices and curriculum.
WORK YEAR: 50 weeks/215 work days
SALARY: Per Administrator’s contract – $127,483 – $145,465
REPORTS TO: Director of Pupil Personnel and Special Services
It is necessary that candidates supply us with at 3 curent letters of reference, resume, cover letter, copy of Connecticut administrative certificate and copies of transcripts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. possess a Connecticut State teaching certificate in special education or a related services area;
2. possess a Connecticut State intermediate supervisor certificate;
3. possess current knowledge about areas of special education instructional, legal and administrative responsibility;
4. possess the capacity for and be comfortable with a variety of collaborative models for creating and sustaining promising conditions for learning;
5. possess a well developed capacity to work constructively with teachers, support staff, administrative supervisory staff and parents;
6. be able and willing to work directly with individuals and staff groups to improve the delivery of special education instruction and related services;
7. be committed to integrating instructional activities and programs across the curriculum;
8. be dedicated to creating those conditions which best promote and support the intellectual, social and physical growth, and development of all students commensurate with each child’s capacity;
9. have experience recruiting, supervising, developing, and evaluating certified and non-certified staff, and;
10. such other additional or modified qualifications as shall be established at the time of any search for a person to assume the position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. serve as an instructional model and resource for teachers and related services personnel;
2. assist in the development of budgets;
3. participate in the hiring of staff;
4. act as communication liaison among teachers, department chairs, building administrators and the Director of Pupil Personnel and Special Services;
5. promote staff development in special education and related services area;
6. assist in the initiating and writing of curriculum materials, school reports, and special education compliance procedures;
7. assist in orienting new teachers and support staff;
8. assist in the resolution of instructional conflicts and issues that may arise among a teacher, student and/or parent;
9. coordinate the activities of all planning and placement teams, including child study teams, SRBI teams, referral, programming, and evaluation;
10. participate in out-of-district planning and placement team meetings;
11. evaluate special education and related services staff;
12. serve on district-wide study committees and task forces;
13. assist in the annual monitoring of SEDAC reporting;
13. coordinate and supervise extended year programs for special education students; and;
14. act in the capacity of the Director of Pupil Personnel and Special Services in the absence of the Director.
