Description
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking to fill a Lead Teacher – Child Care Aide III position that will be responsible for leading an accredited child development program. The individuals must work well with infants, toddlers, pre-school students and their families. Selected candidates will assist with implementing an approved child development curriculum in a classroom situation. A 90-hour certification and one year of experience is required.
Please note that this is a Lead Teacher/Classroom Manager position not a Classroom Aide position.
Examples of Important Duties
Implements and conducts programs that meet the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of both the individual child and the group. Interacts with the children to encourage their involvement in activities. Plans with staff the weekly lesson plans based on the center’s curriculum.
Assists with the training and participates in the evaluation of subordinate staff. Prepares a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean, and appealing and permits the child to grow and to explore. Establishes and maintains good communication with parents through scheduled parent conferences and on a daily informal basis. Observes, records, and reports significant individual and group behavior to supervisory staff.
Uses appropriate and positive discipline and trains staff so that discipline is consistent. Maintains all classroom records and files. Keeps children and parents informed of program goals and developments through written and verbal communication. Attends required staff meetings and training sessions. Prepares materials needed in program and requests equipment and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
- 20 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must possess at least an associate degree in early childhood or related field which includes at a minimum, 15 semester hours of approved course work in early childhood education/child development.
- Successfully completed six semester hours or 90 clock hours or their equivalent of approved training or hold the Child Development Associate Credential issued by the Child Development Associate National Credentialing Program.
- One year of experience under supervision working with a group of children in a licensed early childhood program or has successfully completed one year of study in an accredited institution of higher learning or an equivalent of one year as approved by the Department of Human Resources, Code of Maryland Regulations 07.04.02 – Child Care Center Licensing.
- CPR, First Aid and AED certifications are preferred.
- Successfully complete six clock hours of approved continued training every year.
- Successfully pass a medical examination based upon State Health Department’s medical standards for childcare employees, to be administered by a Commission-approved physician prior to appointment.
- Person(s) hired for this position must provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (with limited religious or medical exceptions).
- Required to complete 12 clock hours of approved continued training yearly. Courses such as “Including All Children” and the “Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)”, “Breast Feeding Support”, “Developmental Screening”, “Communication” and “Medication Administration” will be required upon hire.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret instructions and maintain routine records.
- Be of good moral character as determined by a background investigation in conformance with Maryland state law.
- Position expected to work in various locations between Upper Marlboro and Glenridge Child Care Centers. Hours may vary depending on mandatory child to teacher ratio regulations.
