Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required. Education, training, and experience which provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job supplemented by two years of experience in custodial work. Resumes are welcomed without personal and identifiable information.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Purpose of Classification:

The purpose of this classification is to perform daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks and routine light maintenance work including insuring adequate supplies of materials to perform tasks; prepares, completes, receives and stores documents; moves furniture and equipment.; assists Community Service Workers. Lead Custodian is distinguished from Custodian in that the Lead Custodian organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.

Essential Functions:

Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.

Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, buffs, waxes, and vacuums floor surfaces: schedules floor work to ensure least possible disruption of work routines in buildings and offices.

Cleans, dusts and sanitizes: restroom areas, fixtures, and water fountains, windows, walls, air ducts, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures; dusts desks, ledges, and windowsills.

Performs routine maintenance and upkeep: minor repairs on lavatory and plumbing fixtures, replaces light bulbs; polishes brass; paints walls; reports faulty equipment to superior.

Empties trash receptacles and deposits collected refuse in proper receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper receptacles.

Follows safety procedures, reports unsafe activities and conditions, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; places safety cones, markers, or signs to alert employees/citizens of work areas, wet floors, or other potential hazards.

Monitors inventory levels of equipment, cleaning materials, tools, and supplies: replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement items; stocks or distributes supply items.

Communicates with supervisor, City employees, the public, and other individuals: coordinates work activities, reports problems such as water leaks, power failures, electrical problems, malfunctioning equipment, property damage, or other potential problems involving building operations; reports problems to appropriate personnel reviews status of work, exchanges information, resolves problems; responds to requests for service or assistance.

Prepares, completes, receives various forms, reports, correspondence, time cards, supply lists, work orders, product safety information, mixing instructions, equipment operating manuals, procedures, handbooks, reference materials, manuals, or other documents; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.

Delivers, sets-up and takes down furniture and equipment prior to and after special meetings and events.

Drives community service workers: picks up and delivers as needed.

Additional Functions:
