The North Polk Community School District is a progressive educational community located in the Des Moines metro area just north of Ankeny serving the communities of Alleman, Elkhart, Polk City, and Sheldahl. The District proudly serves over 2200 learners from preschool through 12th grade in five buildings (West Elementary, PK thru 2nd; Big Creek Elementary, 3rd-5th; Central Elementary, PK thru 5th, Middle School, 6th-8th; and High School, 9th-12th).
This role would support our Central Elementary kitchen in Alleman, IA.
Hours: 6:30 am- 2:30 pm
Compensation: $21.21 – 23.14 per hour
Days: 180 (based on student calendar)

Basic Function: To participate as part of the food service team, initiating the production and serving of nutritious and delicious meals. Possess specific skills related to each particular aspect of the job, covering responsibility for three main components; technical support, training and communication. Maintain a good working relationship with staff and students.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Utilizing a district provided menu, gather supplies necessary to fulfill daily needs and initiate preparations to be completed at destination school.
- Assist Nutrition Director in meeting federal and state guidelines for school nutrition program by understanding guidelines and engaging with department staff to continuously improve nutrition program.
- Directs site specific roles and able to fulfill as needed when a position is vacant. These roles include: Server, Fruit and Vegetable Bar Prep, Salad and Sandwich Prep, Point of Sale Station, and Dishwashing Station.
- Ensures that proper sanitation, temperature control, and health standards are followed in conformity with applicable laws and regulations:
- Practices proper procedures and understands and follows sanitation, safety, and personal hygiene procedures set forth in manuals or other department documents.
- Maintains a clean work environment at all times. Properly cleans work equipment, work areas, and eating areas.
- Assists with washing, sweeping, mopping, waste disposal, laundry, and other cleaning duties per the daily cleaning chart, or as otherwise assigned.
- Participates in department or district meetings, federal or state required training, and workshops for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
- Maintaining inventory of food supply using first in first out method.
- Act as custodian of Production Record for assigned site. Ensures site staff are accountable to documentation within this record.
- Contributes to a positive and productive working environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
