Job Summary: The Coordinator of Community Relations and Publications assists in creating a systematized communications program and manages the districtwide publication resources, processes and deliverables via the in-house print shop. Strategic forward-thinking and customer service skills are consistently used as well as content creation and writing.

Responsibilities and tasks include:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the district’s communication plan.
  • Develop and implement communication plans using the four-step communication process (RPIE/RACE) for various initiatives, committees and task forces. All plans should support the district’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Assist with crisis communication response.
  • Assist with providing communications counsel to principals, administrators and other staff.
  • Assist with a coordinated response to email messages received by school board members.
  • Write for a variety of audiences and purposes. Formats include: print/electronic newsletters, websites, social media pages, emails, texts, voicemails and other materials.
  • Assist with the management of events and activities.
  • Maintain the Osseo Area Schools brand/visual identity and ensure compliance amongst staff.
  • Serve as the resource person for design and printing needs and the process to request services (new print management software).
  • Schedule and prioritize the production schedule in alignment with district initiatives, mission and vision.
  • Manage postal services for mailing requests.
  • Monitor finished products for quality assurance and timely delivery.
  • May assist in publications workflow as needed, e.g. creating designs, operating digital printers, binding documents
  • Order materials to ensure appropriate levels of supplies for current and anticipated projects.
  • Complete budgetary processes within print management software and district billing/accounting programs.
  • Promote services with schools and departments.
  • Collaborate with local or commercial printers as needed.
  • Continually re-adjust processes to more efficiently serve schools and departments with timely, high quality and cost-effective products.
  • Ensure publications equipment is properly maintained.
  • Train staff and ensure compliance with district policies and state/federal regulations regarding workplace safety.
  • Prepare monthly publications reports.
  • Strategize goals and ways to reach them with the Executive Director of School/Community Relations.
  • Plan, schedule and direct the work of others; delegate tasks and authority appropriately; establish procedures to guide departmental work; monitor projects to meet deadlines.
  • Supervise direct reports; provide formative feedback and timely performance evaluations.

Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, graphic design, business or related field, plus three years of related professional experience and two years of supervisory experience. Experience working in education and/or knowledge of the Osseo Area Schools community preferred. Must be able to work occasional weekend or evening hours and travel between school buildings as part of the job.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Knowledge of the four-step (Research, Plan, Implement, Evaluate) communications planning process.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, grammar, and AP style.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, communication methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of printing processes.
  • Knowledge of software/hardware systems appropriate to communication and printing, e.g. word processing, desktop publishing, printing equipment.
  • Experience and comfort building new relationships.
  • Interacting effectively with diverse (racially, culturally, linguistically) individuals and groups in a variety of settings.
  • Being resourceful, self-directed, responsible, a problem solver and a skilled communicator.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Being a critical thinker with professional judgment. This includes the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems; and to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions in order to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet extenuating circumstances and crisis needs.

Salary: View salary grid on Page 3, Article VI of the Management Personnel I-M contract
$92,831 – $105,042 annually with excellent benefits package.
