General Description
This position performs work related to the marketing, planning, coordinating, and executing special events, recreational programs, and other cultural and recreational activities for the Parks and Recreation Department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Promotes, develops, and implements marketing efforts to increase utilization and revenue generation at all County Parks and Recreation programs and facilities.
  • Implements and maintains digital and print communication mediums for all Parks and Recreation programs, parks, conservation areas, facilities, and events.
  • Create and manage a consistent image content media plan for the promotion of Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Coordinates and produces community special events sponsored by the County including, but not limited to, Easter Egg Hunts, Halloween Haunted Trails/Trunk or Treat, Farmer’s Market, Movie in the Park, Health, Cultural & Art Festivals, Christmas Carol Event, Music in the Park ect.
  • Coordinates all details required to provide interdepartmental coordination in the delivery of quality special events for the benefit of the public.
  • Develops long-range goals and objectives for improving existing community special events and developing new community events as appropriate.
  • Assists with the development of marking initiatives and solicits corporate and private program sponsorships in support of community special events.
  • Assists Parks and Recreation staff with planning, coordinating, and implementing programs and activities.
  • Assist the County Information Technology, and Communication Department with content development and community engagement for the Parks and Recreation webpage and social media outlets.
  • Works closely with the Communication Department and Tourism Department (when applicable) to coordinate and/or facilitate media coverage of Parks and Recreation events.
  • Coordinates and/or supports public awareness and information programs for special events designed to foster a positive public image of the County.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or closely related field.
  • Must possess three (3) years of experience coordinating special events and/or recreational programs, graphic design, public and/or community relations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain National Recreation and Parks Association Parks and Recreation Professional Certification.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain membership and educational opportunities with Florida Festivals & Events Associations
  • Any combination of education and experience may be substituted, so long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with clean driving record.

Supplemental Information
Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

  • Knowledge of and interest in Park and Recreation programs and activities.
  • Knowledge of new technologies and experience in developing and managing content on several social media platforms.
  • Ability to develop promotional content and digital communications, including social media, email, mobile apps, and other electronic media tools.
  • Ability to create and distribute marketing materials.
  • Ability to solicit vendors, performers, and sponsors for various events.
  • Ability to effectively interact and establish working relationships with staff and the public.
  • Ability to set and monitor timelines.
  • Knowledge of event planning, production, operation and marketing.

  • Demonstrated skill in preparation and production of print media as well as audio/visual materials.

The person in this position needs to be able to frequently move about inside the office to access files, personnel, office machinery, etc., and outdoors to facilitate events in all areas of County parks and recreational facilities.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Frequently ascends/descends natural inclines which may be steep to ensure proper facility maintenance and facilitate events.

Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus

The worker is subject to in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to hot or cold temperatures, wet and/or humid conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office to moderately loud when in the park or other outside facilities.

Medical Coverage
The County offers comprehensive medical coverage through Florida Blue at competitive rates. Medical coverage is available to all benefit-eligible employees and their eligible dependents. Employees have a choice from three plans, all of which are Preferred Provider Option Plans.

In addition to a high subsidy of the premiums, the County contributes up to 50% of the deductible for the High Deductible / HSA / Plan.

Family Deductible = $ 4,200.00 County Contribution of up to $ 2,100.00 per year
Single Deductible = $ 2,100.00 County Contribution of up to $ 1,050.00 per year

Dental Coverage
The County offers a choice of two dental plans, with the County covering 100% of the single premium under the Low Plan. The employee will pay the difference of the premium cost if they elect family coverage.

Life Insurance
The County provides basic life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) life insurance coverage of $ 20,000.00. Eligible employees may purchase additional coverage for themselves, their spouse, and dependent children through the Supplemental Life Insurance program.

Long Term Insurance
Employees may purchase long term insurance through the County’s provider for life insurance at affordable rates.

Supplemental Insurance
Supplemental Insurances such as short-term disability, hospital, cancer, and accident are available through Aflac, Colonial Life and Liberty.

Vision Insurance
The County offers a voluntary vision plan at affordable rates.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The County provides a comprehensive employee assistance program, provided by Aetna, which includes counseling, education and referral services for employees and their eligible family members. EAP services are strictly confidential.

Vacation
Full-time employees accrue vacation of up to 96 hours per year and the accrual will increase depending their length of service with the County. Employee may also earn 8 hours as personal leave each year.

Sick Leave
Full-time regular employees accrue up to 96 hours of sick leave on a yearly basis.

Holiday Pay
The County has eleven paid holidays as listed for full-time and part-time employees (as scheduled).

Retirement Plans
The County participates in the Florida Retirement System. Employees have a choice from two plan under the FRS: Pension Plan and Investment Plan. The County makes a contribution as set by the Florida legislature towards the plan of choice for each employee and the employee makes a contribution of 3%.

Deferred Compensation Plans
Employees may also elect to participate in the County’s deferred compensation plan, which offers a choice from two providers: Mass Mutual and Nationwide. Contributions are voluntary by the employee and made on a pre-tax basis.

Pre-Tax Benefits
Certain payroll deductions can be taken on a before-tax basis. These include medical and dental premiums, FRS plan contributions, and high deductible plan contributions.
