About the Position:

The City of Grand Junction Finance Department is seeking an Accountant Analyst II to engage in high-level accounting responsibilities. The successful candidate will have a strong background in multiple operational areas of accounting, including accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, and internal accounting policy and procedure development. This position will be focused on payroll duties which will include preparing weekly and monthly payroll-related reports, working closely with Human Resources to ensure compliance with relevant legislative and organizational policies, developing and implementing internal controls related to payroll, and backup to bi-weekly payroll processing. We are searching for a collaborative, solution-driven team member who has a knack for creative accounting strategies, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to pivot on competing priorities.

Duties

What You’ll Do:

  • Perform a variety of professional accounting duties involved in the analysis, maintenance, and auditing of accounting records, financial software, and the preparation of financial summaries and reports.
  • Perform general accounting duties including processing invoices, credit card purchases, seized funds, travel authorizations, and annual property assessment reports.
  • Maintain and reconcile a variety of bank accounts, ledgers, and accounting records.
  • Develop and maintain records of capital assets and leases; prepare reports and schedules as requested; update records as appropriate.
  • Analyze and prepare a variety of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for assigned departments including sales tax analysis, annual tax returns, trust/fund reports, and grant allocations.
  • Prepare, monitor, and track assigned budgets.
  • Provide assistance in the analysis of revenue and expenses related to the preparation of the City budget.
  • Serve as a financial resource to various departments.
  • Prepare reports and provide support for annual closing activities and statements for the City’s external audit and provide requested information.
  • Audit and prepare journal entries for various accounting applications; review journal entries prepared by others.
  • Draft and maintain standard accounting policy and procedure documentation.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Two (2) years of professional accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
