GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under minimal supervision, maintain facilities in Cheyenne, Laramie, Torrington, and Wheatland in excess of 542,1947 square feet as well as 75-plus acres of grounds, in accordance with military standards. This position is also responsible for snow removal assistance on a five-acre helicopter launch pad. Utilize associated equipment to maintain Statewide Wyoming Military Department Facilities and Grounds. Establish work priorities, anticipate seasonal maintenance demands, and maintain and account for all assigned equipment. Receive work orders, resource work orders, and report work order completion to supervisor. Update work orders in the work order system. Identify and request supplies, preventative maintenance, and materials to meet the needs of the Wyoming Military Department. Maintain vehicle fleet and perform minor repairs to vehicles and equipment. Provides call-in or call-back services in support of seasonal needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Perform seasonal exterior maintenance tasks such as clearing roadways and sidewalks of snow and ice, lawn mowing, and roadway upkeep. Responsible for weed and pest control mowing, trimming, aerating, planting trees, repairing irrigation stems, and other general grounds work.
  • Perform all general building and grounds maintenance including; basic structural repairs, irrigation systems, landscaping, tools, and equipment. Ensure general cleanliness of the exterior of state-wide facilities. Performs preventative maintenance and general maintenance on all assigned wheeled vehicles, tractors, trailers, ATVs, mowing, and snow removal equipment. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly work orders as assigned.
  • Perform seasonal maintenance to irrigation systems to include, spring start-up, irrigation adjustments, daily irrigation operations, and shut down winterization operations.
  • Assist with identifying life safety issues within Statewide facilities. Testing emergency lighting for proper operations. Perform lighting checks within assigned facilities changing bulbs as necessary and reporting on potential electrical issues.
  • Utilize computer workstations for logging information into the work order system, completing work orders, and receiving and sending emails. Submits purchase requests for replacement parts for tractors, mowers, and other equipment.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
  • Operation of light and heavy-duty equipment
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Knowledge of carpentry, irrigation systems, basic electrical and lawn care

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Associate’s Degree

Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Assistant

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Assistant

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, body parts, bio-hazards, potential explosives, and/or elements.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles, and/or operate large complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Required to travel up to 40% of the time (day trips). Travels to various sites in the South-East Quadrant (Cheyenne, Laramie, Torrington, and Wheatland).
  • The position is classified as Essential Personnel.
