Strategic Relationships Manager

Virginia Tech’s Department of Computer Science (CS) seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Strategic Relationships Manager to lead CS|Source and other departmental initiatives involving industry and corporate relationships.

CS|Source is the CS Department’s tech-talent hub, which provides a pathway for enriching, reciprocal relationships and engagement opportunities between the department’s students, faculty, and researchers and its industry partners.

Reporting to the Director of Administrative Operations for CS and in coordination with the Associate Director of Business Development for the College of Engineering (COE), this position develops an annual work plan in consultation with CS and the COE and is evaluated using the success metrics articulated within that plan.

In collaboration with the CS External Engagement Team (Events/Marketing Specialist, Alumni Relations Manager, Communications Manager, and Special Projects Manager), the COE Advancement Team, and VT LINK/Center for Advancing Partnerships, this position is responsible for promoting, growing, and maintaining industry relationships; developing and implementing compelling engagement opportunities and benefits among internal and external constituencies; ensuring the proper stewardship of industry investments and contributions; and aligning all CS|Source activities and resources with CS and COE strategic priorities.

This highly visible position requires significant communication and customer service skills, as well as a proactive approach to engaging external and internal constituencies (i.e., faculty, staff, students, and administrators across the department, college, and university; alumni; donors; corporate/industry professionals; vendors; community members; etc.). The Strategic Relationships Manager organizes and implements the CS|Source Career Fairs each semester in Blacksburg and at the VT campus in the National Capital Region.

The ideal candidate is exceptionally professional, well-organized and detail oriented and will work well independently as well as in a collaborative, team environment.

Required Qualifications

— Bachelor’s degree in business (administration, management, etc.), public relations, communications, or related field.
— Experience working in an advancement, donor relations, membership, fundraising, and/or stewardship role.
— Clear and professional written and oral communication skills.
— Demonstrated accountability for work accuracy, timeliness, and attention to detail.
— Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and other applications within the Microsoft 365 suite.
— Demonstrated strength in process improvement and problem-solving.
— Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a range of constituents.
— Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

— Master’s degree in business (administration, management, etc.), public relations, communications, or related field.
— Experience in planning and implementing successful development strategies and/or annual campaign operations.
— Experience using member management software.
— Experience in a higher education, military, or non-profit environment.
