The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) has an opening for a middle school emotional support teacher to teach English and social studies to grade 6-8 at our Stankley K. Landis (SKL) Building in Coatesville, PA. This position supports students in our Therapeutic Education Advancing Children’s Horizons (TEACH) program. The TEACH program is a school-based, therapeutic program that provides a clinical and alternative education environment for children, grades 3-12, who have been diagnosed with a significant mental health disorder, such as an oppositional defiant disorder, a conduct disorder, a mood disorder, an anxiety disorder and/or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The program strives to achieve its goals by providing therapeutic, educational and family services.

The CCIU is currently offering a sign on bonus of up to $1,500 for new employees who apply and are subsequently hired for a position between March 16, 2023, and October 31, 2023. More information will be shared with eligible individuals at the time of hire.

Schedule: 5 days per week, 7.5 hours per day. 194 days per year for new professional employees/191 days for professional staff in year two/190 days in all subsequent years
Exempt Status: Exempt
Salaried or Hourly: Salaried
Qualifications:
- Bachelors level degree in education required
- Valid PA Special Education Certificate (Pk-6 and 7-12 or N-12) required
- Experience teaching English and/or social studies preferred
- Experience with middle school aged students preferred
- Three to five years teaching experience preferred
- Experience working with children and adolescents with severe and complex behavior challenges in school, community, or residential setting preferred
- Current police, child abuse & FBI fingerprint clearances required
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill and subject area
- Plan curriculum, lessons, and special education programs and teaching methods
- Evaluate and monitor student progress based on classroom performance, test scores, and observation of behavior
- Support objectives and interventions of the educational program
- Maintain safe physical environment of the classroom
- Maintain contact with parents of students and/or professionals concerning student progress
- When appropriate, develop IEPs addressing specific academic, behavioral, and speech needs of students
- Prepare report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, and other documentation as required
- Function as integral member of treatment/IEP team, addressing needs of students
Salary 2023-2024 School Year:
- $54,981 to $86,531 – Instructional I Certification
- $57,379 to $89,997 – Instructional II Certification
- $61,041 to $98,278 – Master’s Degree
- $65,079 to $103,999 – Master’s + 30
*Placement on the salary scale is determined by previous experience. Salary is pro-rated for days worked in the school year.
