The TRC Department of Transportation (DOT) team is seeking a high performing Senior Risk Manager to manage risk assessments and high impact escalations for regulated transportation programs in the US and Canada. The Senior Risk Manager will work closely with teams across Amazon transportation businesses to recommend strategies, lead projects, and develop compliance frameworks. The ideal candidate will manage relationships with key partners, identify improvement opportunities, analyze risks based on regulatory requirements, drive key initiatives in the space, and manage communications with internal and external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will be an analytical leader with Risk Management experience that makes data-driven decisions in complex, technical, transportation and/or regulatory environments. The individual needs strong communication skills, the experience to influence (both up and across) and support cross-functional stakeholder groups across all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate takes initiative and demonstrates ownership in driving business goals, while being agile to manage change.
Key job responsibilities
- Deliver strategies for (1) regulatory engagement including roadside inspections, audits and other interventions by the US Department of Transportation and Canadian transportation authorities; (2) critical incident and escalations management; (3) transportation risk assessments; and (4) data management, insights and reporting.
- Build our brand and messaging to align with our commitment of being the voice of risk assessments and escalations for Amazon’s US and Canadian regulated transportation programs.
- Research, recommend and implement methods for executing risk assessments, investigations and other escalation matters.
- Track and report metrics to internal stakeholders (continually monitor, perform gap analysis and influence remediation to maximize compliance impact). Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, report appropriate levels of information based on the audience, prioritize and balance the business needs while listening to the voice of the customer is critical.
- Validate the effectiveness of workflows and mechanisms for risk assessments, escalations, and process improvement efforts with the objective to eliminate future escalations.
- Track and communicate results at the senior leadership level.
- Demonstrate strong verbal/written communication skills and an ability to write clearly and succinctly for internal and external customers.
- Succinctly convey complex problems in easy to digest terms for all stakeholders.
A day in the life
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter that possesses flexibility and excellent judgment to work in a fast-changing environment managing ambiguous compliance matters. They will manage complex cross-functional projects e.g. risk assessments and other initiatives for multiple regulated transportation programs. They will recommend program policies, processes, standard operating procedures, controls and mechanisms to mature compliance within legislative and regulatory mandates. They will be responsible for building strong partnerships with stakeholders and vendors. They will be a recognized transportation SME for road, air, and other modes of transportation.

Transportation Risk Compliance (TRC) protects all of Amazon’s transportation businesses, implementing scalable risk management solutions to enable business growth. The DOT Risk and Escalations team is a global team that supports all regulated businesses as it relates to stakeholder management to help build, monitor and analyze effective regulated compliance programs.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- A BA or BS in Business, Economics, Operations, Finance, or another relevant discipline.
- 5+ years of Audit, Compliance and/or Risk Management experience.
- Compliance experience in operations, transportation, logistics industry.
- Experience reviewing compliance processes/standards and executing structured risk assessments.
- Intermediate to advanced analytic and computer skills.
- Experience in the transportation industry with and working knowledge of DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Operations and/or audit team management
- Experience in the transportation industry.
- Advanced degree (e.g. MBA, Juris Doctor (Law)).
- 2+ years managing, coaching and developing direct reports.
- Relevant certifications (Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA®)).

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
