Description
If you are organized, customer service-oriented, and passionate about supporting community arts, join our team at the Cary Arts Center! We are seeking individuals at least 18 years of age who are responsible, flexible, energetic, and able to multi-task. The Center Aide performs Clay Studio maintenance, organization, and studio-specific tasks. This position also requires administrative responsibilities and involves a great deal of public contact, welcoming and assisting patrons and visitors to the Clay Studio and ensuring their participation in the Center is safe, rewarding, and enjoyable as possible. Occasional help in other studios and classrooms may be needed.
This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.
Typical Tasks
- Provides customer service to Clay Studio patrons;
- Assists with inventory and restocks supplies and resale items;
- After training, loads and unloads pottery kiln when necessary;
- Sells items through Point of Sale and performs basic accounting for money received through the cash register;
- Serves as a receptionist, answers telephone and greets the public in person;
- Answers questions regarding clay, tools, techniques, and other studio programs;
- Provides Town information and materials to citizens or redirects the citizen to the appropriate staff;
- Receives, and when possible addresses and responds to citizen inquiries, complaints, requests for services;
- Follows up with supervisor as needed;
- Operates computer-computer work may be extensive;
- Maintains citizen accounts;
- Scans and updates studio passes;
- Registers citizens for Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources programs;
- Notifies patrons of cancelations, changes or updates;
- Enforces Town of Cary policies and procedures;
- Performs ight housekeeping as needed;
- Maintains office files;
- Operates standard office equipment;
- Notifies supervisor of needed supplies and facility issues;
- Special tasks as assigned; examples may include but are not limited to:
- Analyzing and preparing report information;
- Data entry;
- Proactively identifying center needs and initiating tasks;
- Assisting in the orientation and training of new temporary staff and serves as an example to employees on The Cary Way.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires strong organizational skills; general knowledge of computers and related software; general knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; ability to complete assignments accurately and on-time; skilled in the operation of common office equipment; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to work well independently; ability to acquire knowledge of Town of Cary policies, procedures, and the services of the department; ability to interact with the public tactfully and constructively.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED.
Knowledge of ceramic arts practices is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Assignments are primarily clerical, indoors and may require sitting and the use of a computer for extended time periods.
Conditions of Employment:
