Project Management and Support Intern

An internship position for an eager and inspired student enrolled at Howard University or Georgetown University. This position will support ENGIE’s D.C. Streetlighting Project, currently the largest streetlighting modernization project in the country. This public private partnership will modernize 75,000+ streetlights across D.C., reduce energy use by over 50%, improve equity of energy services, and extend wifi coverage in underserved neighborhoods.

Ideal candidates will be with in the following majors: Logistics, Materials and Supply Chain Management; Operations and Information Management; Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil & Environmental); Business, Management, Marketing and Support; or Management, Leadership and Innovation.

The internship work term will be from on or around May 15 – on or around August 15, 2023, 15 hours per week minimum. Additional hours/weeks may be available based on business needs and will be discussed in advance with your supervisor.

What you’ll do:

  • Assist the Project Management Team in all necessary aspects of the project execution
  • Areas of possible work assignment include feasibility assessments, developing approval documentation, assisting in the procurement of design and construction services, reviewing design plans, and attending design meetings
  • Potential project work will cover city streetlighting infrastructure upgrades, expansion planning and implementation and engineering acumen to support similar areas
  • Provide support to project management in matters of progress, coordination, entitlement and interpretation of contract documents
  • Support the scheduling, movement, and related logistics for project materials and labor
  • Assist in regular site inspections and site meetings to determine the status of the tasks, to assist with the coordination of the works and to provide input to solve technical problems
  • Apply QA / QC requirements according to field quality program, Installation & Testing programs, and plans, working closely with QA / QC members of the Project Management Team
  • Ensure that work follows applicable codes, statutory regulations and specifications
  • Assist in the implementation of all quality control procedures for all construction and erection activities to the specifications of the contract agreement
  • Attend safety walks and log safety items in the field
  • Maintain and coordinate the Project documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What you bring:

  • Minimum of 2 years of completed course work within the programs listed above or equivalent degree program required.
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Junior or Senior candidates preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Currently enrolled student at Howard University or Georgetown University
  • Desire to gain knowledge of municipal lighting infrastructure projects
  • Interest to learn Remeasure / Quantity Contracts and Lump Sum Contracts as relating to engineering and construction of industrial projects
  • Keen interest in learning the relationship of engineering principles to engineering scheduling and execution processes
  • Good analytical and strategic thinking abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills in a matrix and multi-cultural environment

  • Could involve some lifting / up to 50 lbs
