Control Room Operating Engineer

The Control Room Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable and cost-efficient operation and maintenance of campus utility production and distribution systems of steam, electricity, condensate, and domestic water.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintains constant watch over all operating equipment by monitoring the control room computers and instrumentation to ensure the equipment is performing according to prescribed characteristics for a safe and efficient operation in providing steam, and electrical services to the central distribution system. Makes operational changes and adjustments as required to secure safe, efficient, and continual operation
  • Starts up and shuts down Combustion Turbine, Heat Recovery Steam Generator, high-pressure boilers, pumps, fans, generators, and auxiliary equipment under normal conditions as well as under emergency conditions to match the demand in a prescheduled manner
  • Responsible for the production of Steam, Electricity, condensate, and domestic water distribution throughout the Plant serving end user. Closes and opens valves for the service under normal conditions as well as under emergency conditions
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and diagnosing faults to replace and repair non-operational parts
  • Schedules preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates at optimum performance
  • Reviews and ensures that control room log readings, plant walkdown sheets boiler readings and analysis are taken properly by equipment operators. Makes sure corrective action is taken to chemical treatments as required. Adjustments to plant equipment as required
  • Reviews operational manuals, technical manuals, and plant procedures
  • Designated as an emergency employee and must report to work regardless of the university’s operating status

What you bring:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of Five (5) years of background in trade practices of steam engineering. Must operate intuitively from previous background knowledge in troubleshooting the gauges and instruments on panels to bring about the satisfactory operation.
  • 1st Class DC Steam Engineers License required
  • Power Plant and Combustion Turbine experience helpful
  • Must be capable of interpreting, evaluating, and directing conditions and actions of field equipment and personnel
  • Ability to adhere to the highest safety standards
  • Must be able to multi-task; utilize problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Hard work ethic, self-starter, can-do attitude
  • Work from drawings and be capable of systematically and logically locating the problem when drawings are not available
  • Analyze plant processes, design, and implement improvements
  • Translates and communicates operational problems to all levels of management
  • Work with others to detect problems and implements a solution

Additional Information/Conditions:

  • Must be eligible to work for any U.S. employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future
  • Ability to meet the highest attendance requirements and communicate effectively, both written and verbally
  • Capacity to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy and use company issues computers, service level terminals and other devices
  • Competence in proper procedures to lift light to medium-weight objects. Could involve some lifting <50lbs>
  • Capable to perform work from ladders or scaffolds, on top of boilers, next to hot steam-driven equipment, and near rotating equipment as well as pushing and a pull of objects or performing work in an abnormal sitting or standing position
  • Ability to perform work inside confined spaces, manholes and crawl spaces.
  • Willingness to develop technical proficiency in some software applications (Maximo, SAP, ADP)
  • Must be willing and able to comply with ENGIE’s policy with respect to COVID vaccination and testing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

  • Salary Range: $56,270 – $140,010 USD , annually
  • Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
  • In addition to salary, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan
