The Senior Interconnection Specialist, will support ENGIE’s Distributed Solar and Storage (DSS) Project and Business Development teams in applying for, managing, and obtaining interconnection agreements for distributed solar and storage projects (1-20 MWac) for ENGIE Distributed Solar and Storage’s portfolio across the United States. In addition, they will provide input on evaluating optimal greenfield siting strategies based on interconnection (cost and location) and assessing the interconnection risks and costs for site acquisitions. They will also assist the Project Development team to forge and maintain relationships with ISO/RTO, utility and muni/co-op stakeholders to be able to effectively navigate interconnection study processes. An ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills and an aptitude for juggling a variety of simultaneous tasks, all while demonstrating a positive and professional attitude.
This position can sit in Houston, TX or Chicago, IL and will report to the Director of Project Development. This position is open to a hybrid scheduled of both in-office and work-from-home days.
What you’ll do:
- Lead DSS development projects through the interconnection process in close coordination with the Project Developer new and existing project interconnection requests with utilities, ISO/RTOs, and munis/co-ops (dependent on project location) for the Project Development Team.
- Engage and when needed, manage, internal resources and external consultants for engineering support to prepare interconnection application packages, review interconnection study results, participate on scoping and review calls and negotiate interconnection agreements
- Attend utility and ISO/RTO project-specific and stakeholder meetings and represent the company in industry advocacy groups; collaborate with the Policy team on participating in proposed interconnection rule reforms
- Communicate project’s interconnection requirements, risks and opportunities to Project and Business Development and Delivery and Engineering teams; support pipeline and risk reviews to assess project viability
- Work with the DSS Project and Business Development and Delivery and Engineering teams to identify critical interconnection study milestones, cost estimates, capital exposure risks and clearly communicate necessary information to internal and external stakeholders
- Support and assist in pipeline, risk and investment committee reviews and approvals.
- Provide interconnection subject matter expertise in support of project financings and project hand-offs to Asset Management
What you bring:
- A minimum of a four (4) year degree from an accredited college or university
- A minimum of five (5) years of related power systems modeling, transmission planning, operations, or grid integration experience
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant engineering and technical policy experience including renewable energy design and interconnection tariff structures and business practice manuals
- Excellent knowledge of interconnection study procedures both at the ISO/RTO and distribution interconnection levels
- Ability to perform or closely review power flow, short circuit, and dynamic studies and interconnection study results
- General knowledge of technical standards applicable to the project interconnection design for both solar and solar + storage projects
- Conscientious and detail oriented
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively individually as well as with a team
- Results-oriented professional with the ability to work independently within a large matrixed organization while effectively interfacing with the various cross-functional employee groups
- Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving ability and strong analytical skills while being able to work effectively individually and as a team
- Ability to thrive in quickly changing environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Superior verbal and written communication skills and high level of attention to detail with the ability to present to a wide range of audiences, including landowners, potential off takers, government officials, and corporate leaders
- Experience with power system analytical tools
- A proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint

- Salary Range: $79,305-$202,540 USD annually
- Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors
