Salary Range: $59,328 – $76,015

Remote/Hybrid/In-person only: Hybrid (after probationary period)

Term of employment: Grant funded position from 07/01/23-06/30/24.
Position continuation dependent on additional grant funding.

Position Description: The position reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for grant writing and grant management for Portland Adult Education, as well as for several shared grants through the Cumberland County Education and Career Development Hub (Hub 8) which includes 10 adult education programs. The position is responsible for working with PAE program staff, as well as other Adult Ed directors in HUB 8, to identify funding opportunities, prepare proposals, collect and report data, coordinate information sharing, and ensure successful submission of all grant proposals and reports. They will work closely with the Finance Coordinator to track expenses and prepare financial reports. They will also research and identify potential funding opportunities, and lead grant writing efforts in coordination with the Director and Assistant Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Grant writing and proposal development:
    • Research and identify potential funding sources
    • Write grant applications for PAE and Hub 8 with input from Adult Ed Directors and key staff
    • Prepare grant budgets
    • Timely proposal submission
  • Grant Management
    • Create/manage data collection tools
    • Collect qualitative and quantitative data from key staff
    • Set up new grant budgets in financial database in partnership with Central Office
    • Manage grant reporting timelines and submissions
    • Provide grant-related technical assistance to Cumberland County adult ed programs
    • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures
    • Adhere to all grant-related requirements for 20+ private, state and federal grants.
  • Grant Reporting
    • Prepare and submit quarterly financial reports
    • Write and submit narrative reports
    • Maintain relationships with Hub partners including adult education directors throughout Cumberland County and respond to grant-related inquiries
    • Coordinate professional learning community/ PD opportunities for Hub
    • Coordinate other grant-related activities

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 2-5 years experience relevant work experience
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position
  • Grant writing and management skills including budget oversight and reporting
  • Strong organizational skills including working under deadlines
  • Ability to use research to guide program development and grant writing
  • Experience with data collection and analysis for reporting and program improvement
  • Ability to work across programs and with multiple stakeholders throughout Cumberland County
  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability and skill to empathize and understand adult education students’ concerns and a commitment to PAE’s mission
  • Clear, concise oral and written communication
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of flexibility
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment; and a willingness to learn

Preferred:

  • Masters degree preferred
  • Experience working with multicultural communities
  • Familiarity with PAE and its programming preferred
  • Ability to speak multiple languages
  • Previous experience in education, workforce, or community development

Location and Work schedule:

  • PAE offers both in person and remote classes. In person classes take place at 14 Locust St, Portland, ME
  • Class schedules vary – morning, afternoon and evening session available
