ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER FIELD SUPERVISOR(FIELD OPERATIONS)

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Environmental Engineer Field Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in onboarding and training Field Scientists, ensuring adherence to Health & Safety (H&S) guidelines, managing documentation, and overseeing project execution, including Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC). You will provide support in project scoping, preparation, coordination, and resource management, ensuring the maintenance of group productivity. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, you will contribute to the success of our environmental projects.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Mentor and supervise field personnel, guiding them in tasks related to the project’s scope and ensuring job site safety.
  2. Deliver on-the-job training, develop employees’ field procedures, time management, field documentation (photos, notes, field forms, etc.), and facilitate cross-training.
  3. Facilitate the onboarding process for new staff members.
  4. Assist the Field Operations Manager in scheduling and deploying resources effectively.
  5. Aid in cost estimating, proposal preparation, site walks, and project scoping when required.
  6. Review and enforce Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) at work sites, prioritizing the well-being of the team.
  7. Maintain an inventory of field supplies to support seamless operations.
  8. Evaluate, select, schedule, and manage subcontractors for efficient project execution.
  9. Contribute to maintaining the productivity of the group, surpassing productivity goals consistently.
  10. Plan non-billable work tasks during periods of limited billable work availability.
  11. Support, implement, and enforce company policies and procedures to ensure compliance and operational excellence.
  12. Review and approve timesheets and expense reports for accuracy and compliance.
  13. Ensure safe project management and execution across all assigned projects.
  14. Assist in the preparation of load lists, field instructions, daily reports, and production reports.
  15. Monitor the quality and consistency of fieldwork, including site inspections, equipment usage, fleet maintenance, and job site H&S compliance.
  16. Effectively communicate changes in scope to internal clients as necessary, ensuring project alignment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Proficient in environmental investigation techniques.• Familiarity with regulatory cleanup programs and guidance.• Skilled in calibrating and operating various field equipment.• Ability to interpret geologic and hydrogeologic information as well as chemical data.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of field experience in environmental work. Previous management, training, or construction experience is preferred.

Skills: Strong computer skills and excellent verbal and written communication abilities are essential.

Certifications: Must possess OSHA HAZWOPER Certification (40 hours).

Additional requirements: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Physical capability to operate vehicles safely and work outdoors in all weather conditions, meeting the physical demands of the job.*Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be considered.

JOB CONTEXT75% of the role involves field/site visit travel, exposing you to environmental job hazards, while the remaining 25% is office-based work in a controlled environment.This position requires frequent travel to various project locations, including day trips within the state or neighboring states, sometimes resulting in longer workdays. Some projects may require extended travel, including multiple days and overnights. Additionally, long-term remote assignments may be necessary, and intermittent 24-hour on-call duty may be required.
