Sr. Grant Accountant

Position Summary:

The Senior Grant Accountant is responsible for overall fiscal grants management and stewardship. This position ensures fiscal compliance with government grants and contracts and is the designated fiscal point of contact. The Senior Grant Accountant prepares required financial reports for various federal, state, and local grants received by the organization. The Senior Grant Accountant is the key finance staff representative in grants from budget development, through billing and subsequent audit and compliance reviews. This position collaborates with grant managers and program and finance directors in tracking grant versus budget spending, including budget modifications as needed. Ensures proper internal controls and procedures are in place.

Day in the life: In a typical day, a Sr. Grant Accountant can expect to…

  • Fiscal Grants Management and Stewardship: Serve as the overall financial steward for fiscal grant management.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with Federal circulars, sub-recipient guidelines and timely submission of reports.
  • Invoicing: Manage the preparation of invoices based on knowledge of each grant and contract (e.g. monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and/or annually).
  • Administrative Duties: Assist with various administrative reports and duties in the Finance Department.

Job Pay & Perks:

  • Typical starting pay range: $36.00 – $45.00 per hour

About You:

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Non-profit fiscal grant experience.
  • Compliance experience with government grants and contracts.
  • Grant billings experience.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Initiative-taking, results-oriented, and goal focused.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan projects, forecast time, and organize internal and external resources.
  • Highly motivated to meet deadlines and achieve goals.
  • Superior people skills and demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with individuals across the organization.
  • Capacity and preference to work independently as well as collaboratively when required.
  • Excellent skills in organization, diligence, and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines).
  • Great Plains experience a plus.

Prior Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or related field, or equilvalent experience as noted below:
    • With a bachelor’s degree: Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible grants accounting experience (including a minumum of 2 years of experience in government grants accounting)
    • Without a bachelor’s degree: Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible grants accounting experience (including a minumum of 2 years of experience in government grants accounting)
  • CGMS (Certified Grants Management Specialist) certification preferred.
