Pacific Coast Producers (PCP), a growing agricultural cooperative with food production facilities across the West Coast, is seeking an experienced and innovative Waste-Water Manager to join its team at its Production Facility in The Dalles, OR. We have two production facilities located in The Dalles, Oregon, specifically dedicated to processing cherries. The facilities are equipped with advanced sorting and pitting equipment, enabling us to efficiently process large volumes of cherries while maintaining strict quality standards. Our facilities are an important part of the Pacific Northwest’s agricultural industry and play a key role in the production of high-quality cherry products for consumers around the world.
Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000 per year; candidate will be paid based on their work experience and skills. Full time. This position is eligible for the annual profit-sharing bonus program.
The Waste-Water Manger will be responsible for managing wastewater treatment facilities in a safe manner and within state and federal discharge guidelines, supervising wastewater staff and projects, and managing all laboratory testing involved in the operation of the wastewater treatment system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor operations of the wastewater treatment facilities to ensure safe practices and state and federal guidelines are followed.
- Maintain all DEQ and EPA guidelines within the Clean Water Act. Control off-site odors to comply with DEQ guidelines.
- Act as the designated “Environmental Supervisor” as stipulated in the NPDES permit for the Riverside and Downtown Facilities.
- Responsible for required and conditional reporting to State and Federal regulators regarding NPDES permits.
- Maintain updated ancillary documents and procedures as require our two facilities NPDES permits.
- Keep key personnel informed of critical wastewater conditions.
- Conduct testing and manage outsourced testing for DEQ requirements and complete monthly and annual DEQ reporting.
- Oversee operation and maintenance of solids removal system, solids disposal and provide for economical removal of sludge from wastewater.
- Coordinate wastewater personnel scheduling with human resources.
- Manage ponds to maintain permit compliance while treating continuous and variable production flows.
- Maintain chemical inventories for wastewater use.
- Optimize wastewater processes for resilience and cost savings
- Ensure that all safety rules are enforced.
- Perform process monitoring and associated documentation.
- Perform or supervise wastewater discharges in compliance with NPDES regulations.
- Coordinate operations with Downtown Wastewater Manager
- Ensures subordinate development by utilizing the Performance Management program.
- Ensure that all safety rules are enforced and notify management with issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized and hazard-free work environment.
- Supervise the Wastewater Manager – DT (administration) and wastewater operators (union).
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree and at least one year of experience in wastewater operations or an Associate’s degree and 3-5 years applicable wastewater operations experience.
- Possess good math skills; i.e., calculate dilutions, ppm, COD, BOD.
- Knowledge of chemistry and microbiology techniques.
- Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for machinery and processes.
- Knowledge of commonly used classes of chemicals, appropriate use and concentration.
- Knowledge of hygiene standards/protocol for food safety.
- Must demonstrate problem solving skills and effectively handle conflict/stressful situations.
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrate good leadership skills and an ability to work effectively with others.
Physical Requirements
Frequent physical activity includes sitting, walking, using a keyboard, touching, hearing, and speaking. Moderate physical activity includes standing, stooping, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
