WHO YOU ARE:

As a Guidance Counselor you will foster a college-bound environment, support students’ successful completion of high school and transition to college, and ensure all students are four-year college eligible. The Guidance Counselor is crucial to the success of our students.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Education and Experience:
  • BA required, MA in counseling preferred
  • Minimum 2-3 years high school/college counseling experience
  • Experience w/college admission process a plus
  • Experience facilitating standardized testing
  • Experience in scheduling classes is a plus

THE ROLE:

  • Under the direction of the Vice Principal, oversee the entire student recruitment and enrollment/admissions process (Open Houses, articulation meetings, elementary counselors’ breakfasts, advertising, school visits, high school fairs, New Schools Expo, enrollment night)
  • Maintain a visible college culture throughout the school by decorating walls with college paraphernalia, motivational messages, etc
  • Maintain external relationships to bring services or opportunities to the school (e.g., SAT test prep courses, guest speakers)
  • Ensure all eligible students apply to a four-year college program, including a required application to a NJ public institution.
  • Collect and monitor student academic progress, specifically on-track for promotion/graduation data
  • Supervise credit recovery programs and opportunities for students (e.g., on-line credit recovery, summer school)
  • Supervise the school’s National Honor Society
  • Facilitate college admission and financial aid workshops for students and parents
  • Support scholarship application and award process for students applying for the Marion P. Thomas Charter School Foundation Scholarships and general scholarships.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Salary range: BA $61,912 – $86,912 / MA 62,412 – 87,412
  • Term of Employment: 10.5 Months
  • Union: MPTEA
